Guys, I've read several threads (some on the U.S. forums too) on this Coolant System reroute, including this one on Nutz www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=149997, no doubt you're all aware of what's involved etc. Now, I'm very keen on carrying this mod out but confused, the more I read the Nutz thread the less I understood! I know, I know it could well be me just being a slow...wouldn't be the first time either but I'm not too well versed yet in all things that is MX5's. Anyway here's the Skidnation kit/kits. skidnation.com/product-category/coolant-reroute/What I want to know which parts I actually need for my '98 NB 1.8 and can I delete the complete front mounted thermostat housing? I've seen more expensive kits offered sale in the U.S and I wondering are these better and if so is it worth paying the extra for them? Sorry about all the newbie questions but I want to do it right first time. Cheers.

Have you read this? revlimiter.net/blog/2011/05/coolant-re-route-1/A coolant reroute basically moves the stat neck to the back. The bit that comes out the front of the block gets capped, so it's not completely deleted. Can't comment on what's better as mine was already on the car when I got it.

O.k so, the lower section of the thermostat housing remains? I was hoping the complete housing could be deleted as I can't see any need for it , with the NB 1.8 the temperature switch is at the rear?

Never seen the point in these. Run and raced several boosted MX5s and heat management is never an issue as long as everything is in good working order. The money can be better spent elsewhere.

I'm glad you said that Horney.
I've reservations myself but I do see the reason these kits are offered even if the benefits are just marginal and possibly any real gains only come from tracking a car. I was only thinking about this this morning if I'll really bother doing it, what was encouraging me is the fact that I've a cambelt change to do anyway plus change the w/pump, thermostat and maybe a few coolant hoses.
One aspect of that kit that I liked was the possibility of deleting the complete original thermostat housing (top and bottom) as those small hose connections look like a recipe for leaks.
The jury is out with me on this one but good to hear your views Horney.
