I blame this squarely at the doors of Pistonheads. Last Sunday I went to the Sunday Service at Silverstone and decided to take my MK3 daily out for a track session to compare it to my mk1's and mk2's I've tracked. CT-6144-(ZF-1554-81834-1-001) by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr I loved it so much I decided rather than forge ahead with my current MK1 throttle body build I would sell everything MK1 related and build a MK3 track car. Tomorrow I collect this: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr 2006 2.0 sport with 6 speed and TorSen LSD. 124,000 miles and Ā£2400. and this week I have ordered: RX8 Yellow Dot Ant Roll Bars New Drop Links Racing Beat 4-1 Manifold GoPerform Stainless Back Box Ultralite Enkei reps in 17x7.5 ET42 Nanking NSR2 215 45 17 in Soft Compound Skuzzle TorqueIntake Induction Kit The BC coilovers I bought for the daily will now be going on this. That little lot with a remap at Skuzzle Motorsport should see me at 180bhp at the flywheel and handle and grip nicely. I need to figure out brake pads next. Finally I have the Sparco Sprint 5 bucket seats and TRS harnesses from my MK1 to fit. This brings all sorts of challenges with fooling the occupancy and airbag wiring. Not looking forward to that. I also need the rear roll bar from GC Fabrications to use the harnesses. I think I'll be putting the seats in and running with standard 3 points in the short term. Finally. The wheels I've ordered are gold because a JPS inspired colour scheme would be rude not to right?

Yes! š
No damage on it at all was it just the mileage making it a bargain?

Yes! š No damage on it at all was it just the mileage making it a bargain? The mileage and apparently the paint is a bit tired. But that's coming from Mr Perfectionist Painter Dave.

Good one Nick. Speak to Paul Chance at Carbon Lorraine about pads. They're not cheap but very very good.

Sounds like you got one for a good price, when you consider what you can pay for mk1s and mk2s of questionable condition the mk3s seem quite cheap, that's how I ended up in one.

I thought it was going to be a black mk3. Much relief. Love that though.

What pads do you run? I've liked at various options from yellow stuff (which I liked on the mk1s), Rodders pads, all the way of to Carbotec XP10s. The brakes on MK3s are actually very good so I'm not sure I actually need to go of something as mentally expensive as the Carbotecs and I need something that works well from cold for sprints. I will do trackdays in it but frankly having an occasionally cool down lap for pads is not an issues for me anyway. I only tend to drive 8/10ths on a trackday.

Stock brakes are good (by stock I mean I bought all new Pagid branded disc and pads from eurocar parts) though the OE Mazda pad were on my car when I bought it and it was good too.
I kind of favour this route at the moment, pads are cheap, performance is consistent even from cold, you know what you are going to get for a certain pedal pressure so even though the mk3 eats them on a trackday (note trackday day for me is triple digit lapping typically, not a few laps and a chat as it can be for some)I can carry a spare set with me.
Didn't like yellow stuff, experienced fade and they fell too pieces, people say Rodders pads are good, I was going to try them this time but I have had a bit of a splurge and gone the carbotech route, initial assessment is not too promising at least on the road from cold with respect to pressure and pedal feel but its been a struggle to properly bed them in on the road, they do brake hard, but not sure I could take these so controllably up to threshold point cold, I'll do a lot of laps on Thursday with them and re do the bed in but my suspicion is great track pad, perhaps poor choice for getting the most out of the car in a sprint when everything is cold.
Would Rodders be quite similar I wonder as the track boys love them but of course lots of laps when warm, dunno.

Interesting. Puts me off the expensive pads then.
Rodders pads are supposed to be excellent when warm and 95% as good straight from cold. Seems it's a toss up between those and some decent OE pads from Pagid.

To be fair with the new compounds I should of put new discs on but realised that I only had the Mazda 5 rears for my future big brake upgrade rather than mx5 ones doh! I would of sorted it but had to put the car in the shop as the diff leaked and I don't know how to do that myself nor do I have time to mess about with a stack of events lined up and work, this damn working lark is a pain in the rear canoe...grr.
I'll know more on Thursday after a proper session on them.

It's home. It's a bit more rough round the edges than I would have liked but it drives and skids well so happy days.
Needs a thermostat change and full fluid change though.

Track day before I sell mine ...
Also, what state is the glove compartment door in? Would you accept trade of my scratched one and some money for it if its a good one?
