So I may have gotten a hold of a Megasquirt PNP2 standalone ECU for my turbo build potentially for quite a good price, (I say "may" and "potentially" because no money has changed hands yet).
I've tried to bag this one as it is specifically for a '96-'97 Mk1 1.8 which is a bit of a ballbag when it comes to getting ECUs for as it is not the same as any other Mk1 nor is it the same as any other Mk2, its it's own pain in the bumhole thing. Plus this one is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than any ME221 I could have bought and budget is very important on this build.
I digress. My question is, if I buy and fit the ECU and download a turbo base map, will this be enough to get me to and from my tuner of choice? In this case it will be Skuzzle who are about 25 miles away from me.
Also, if it transpires that the car the ECU is off of had the same turbo, injectors etc, will it be theoretically safe for me to drive on for a more prolonged basis?

I done the same, downloaded a base map and tweeked the fuel a little bit mainly so it was over fuelling more then anything!
I had a 100 something mile drive to Skuzzle all on motorways, take it easy and you'll be fine...

I spent a few hours playing with tuner studio to make sure i had fuelling for most the range but yeah pretty much tried to ensure i was off boost as much of the journey i could...
Could always wire the actuator open to ensure no boost?

Could always wire the actuator open to ensure no boost? This was a thought of mine also, or just disconnect the thing completely. Thanks for the comments

Get an AFR gauge and do some gentle auto-tuning with tuner studio - that will hopefully get your map close enough for driving to the tuners.
Get an AFR gauge anyway.

Cool, an AFR was on the cards but Skuzzle reckon it's not totally necessary as their dyno is accurate enough to tune without one. I may get one anyways just for piece of mind. EDIT: The above is absolute rubbish, it was a wideband they could do without I'm tired this morning...

I have been told that I am able to use the MSPNP2 with just a boost solenoid using the ECU as a boost controller. I've never run a car set up in this way, only ever with a separate EBC. Can someone point me in the direction of a boost solenoid that might do the job? I assume that any 3 port solenoid should in theory do the job?

They probably don't need one to tune the car, as they'll have one on the dyno - but it's good to have one for peace of mind.

I'll see what Skuzzle recommend as they'll be the guys looking after it once it's mapped.

Skuzzle wont need one to map but although the gauge wont be 100% right i would definitely have one...
Its more an 'oh prarrie canoe' gauge, if you go massively lean without a gauge you wont know until something goes bang...
