, I'd say, sell everything and buy something boring and reliable for a while to give you time and space to think about what you want from car life fun time. Don't go straight to another MX5 tbh without taking a break first just to see if it's really something you wanna keep at. I did this, got rid of my first 5 and then had various cars before I realised how much I missed it, a good way to fall back in love with them again. Same as this - I went 6 years without a 5 and went through the whole Renault RS range, always regretted selling the 5, but at the time it seemed the sensible thing to do.

Cars are a necessary evil, unless you are minted you are going to lose money. I would never have an old car for everyday use personally. The 5 should be for fun. Cut your losses and get something very boring and cheap to run until you are back on your feet again.
We have all been in your position at one time or another.

Thanks for all the advice and feedback. I've got a boring car and have done for about a year. I have an E39 525d that's nice and reliable and gets me everywhere I want to go.
I also can borrow my dad's 996 if I want to get a little bit of fun but cars are in my blood. I've been driving since I was 10, started racing Go karts before that, and been doing track days for maybe 10 years. Not having a fun car that I can jump in whenever I want to is absolutely killing me at the moment, and if I'm honest not having that makes my normal driving worse as I drive like a Canoe if I haven't got that dose of fast driving out of my system.
In this scenario while a bit of it is the amount of money and whether I have it - it's more the adult in me no longer allowing the child in me to just waste money, and in this scenario spending the £3k is just wasting money. I might not buy an MX5 but I'll definitely get something as soon as I've sold everything and have the cash in my hand. I'm back in the UK now and few extremely jet lagged. Will ring Skuzzle on Monday and discuss with them if there's a cheaper option or cancelling the work altogether.

This is exactly why I never wrote anything down about what I spend on cars. It makes me happy, I just do what I can afford after all adulting is done. Anyway, it's still cheaper than a coke habit.

I feel your pain, "adult stuff" is pretty ambiguous but I have spent an awful lot of money on it in the last couple of months. I have also shafted myself and got somewhere with a singular parking space I would say- don't sell if you can avoid it. No mates etc. willing to chip in and give you a hand doing a DIY body swap? Big job yes, but not horrendous! Of course I can well appreciate it's space dependant etc. I would probably consider tackling it on a driveway over the summer though... Also echo'ing the above, can you not break the rotten on and recoup some funds? Or perhaps just do a bits swap rather than a full body swap?
