Okay guys,
About to order either of these in 195/50/15 and want some real world and track day bro comparisons of each tyre.
I've used the AD08R on Road, and only once at Llandow, and I found them super great so I'm tempted to stick with them to see how they work on a car with much stiffer suspension (My old knackered Koni's VS new MeisterR CRD)
But if anyone's got anything great to say about the R1R then let me know!

I've used both but not on the MX5. In my experience of the two, the R1R is a better road tyre & the AD08R slightly better on the track.
The R1R tended to wear the 'pointy bits' on the tread 'diamonds' on track, however they are better on the road on the wet than the AD08Rs which were really not good unless it was pretty bone dry. But on a dry track the AD08Rs were brilliant & wore evenly.
Hope that helps?
edit- I found that the 195/50/15 AD08R is much wider compared to the same sized rainsport.

I have been quite impressed with AD08R in the wet personally, whilst not the last word in wet grip I have been on much worse, their break away seems progressive enough. Never used R1R
There is an independent test here which has them both in
www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/yokohama-advan-neova-ad08-page-8 media.caranddriver.com/files/monsters-of-grip-nine-summer-performance-tires-tested.pdf
Of course it is the old AD08 and not the improved AD08R but still.
AD08R have ruined my ride somewhat due to their weight and stiffness, also I haven't really found much more grip than I had with CSC5s, they can put up with more sustained abuse though, felt like they could lap all day at Combe.
I managed to find 2 secs at a wet Werrington on AD08Rs vs CSC5s which admittedly are a road tyre and were at the opposite ends of the life spectrum.
