Hi all , it's been a while.
Time has come to sell my car.
1991 Mazda Mx5 Eunos Roadster Track/Fast road car. Quick spec is as follows;
-Originally a V spec (tan leather, BRG paint etc) 1991 JDM import.
-214,00KM = 133,000 miles
-1600cc, 115bhp
-Viscous LSD
-Tanabe Limit AX tubular exhaust manifold (this fits both the 1600/1800 engines as the flange has spacing for both heads. I had this manifold professionally repaired as it was cracked, however it will never break again now, I’m sure I have photo’s of the repair somewhere if required.
-Mongoose decat pipe ( I had to modify this due to the odd length of the manifold) NOTE NONE of the stock mx5 length cats will bolt back onto this system, however the car is PRE cat and does not require one for the MOT.
- GAB strut brace, old skool jdm !
- Powdercoated valve cover iridescent bronze
-Stock airbox, drilled.
-Bilstein Shocks (from S special)
-Eibach -30mm lowering springs
-Genuine Panasport Ultralite 14” wheels (These are a very rare, classic JDM wheel) Lightest alloy wheels I have ever picked up, marked up ‘For racing purpose only’ However they pass MOT no problems.
-OEM front lip
-Nankang NS2R road legal track tyres, 1000miles max on these, like new.
-TR lane GPD Roll cage with integrated Harness bar
-Genuine Nardi wooden steering wheel
-Hardtop from late mk2.5
-JB Fab seatmount for fixed bucket (drivers side)
Right, First things first, if you are after an mx5 to polish on a Saturday morning to then take out for a nice Sunday jaunt... this isn’t the one for you! But thanks for looking anyway
I bought the car in December 2015 in pretty much stock V spec trim and have turned it into what you see today. It’s been painted (i’m guessing whilst still in Japan) In what really is a gorgeous emerald green/bronze colour.
The paintwork has had some hammer, My neighbour has reversed into it twice (hence red wing + cracked paint on front bumper) Purely aesthetical damage, this was done at walking pace! There are marks on the rear bumper and little marks all over, however, it does still polish up well. The paintwork has never bothered me as I’ve simply used it as a fast road car for hooning around our local B roads. It’s certainly worthy of repainting if that’s your thing. I will say however you will not get a perfect colour match for the paint. I painted the Hardtop myself and had the stock colour scanned at my local Fishers, the nearest match is ‘Hyundai Emerald Green’ Which is what both the roof + the new rear sills are painted in. It’s close but not exact. The car has one stock mirror, one aftermarket.
The car drives faultlessly for it’s age. Starts on the button and burns Minimal oil even when it’s been out on spirited drives. There is a slight noise from the PPF when cold however had no issues with the transmission what so ever.
Both engine/gearbox/diff oil were changed last summer and i’ve covered circa 2k miles since.
The cam timing has been adjusted back to stock (last week) idles at just over 1k and pulls as it should. If you have driven one before you know they aren’t the quickest things in the world but revs like it should with no overheating/engine issues what so ever. I’m more than happy to take any potential buyer out for a good hours test drive
The car has just gone through MOT after an eventful failure in January. Cut a long story short I was diddled at a garage who failed the car on more work than what was actually needed. But i’ve worked through everything on the fail sheet . For this year the car has had the following;
-2x new rear sills (I repaired these properly with the old matieral being cut out and new sheet steel welded in) More than adequate for the car and will cause no issues in the future. These aint a typical MOT bodge job that you see on most MX5s.
-The car failed on emissions ( was put through cat test! – garage error!)
-Proper sized JDM front number plate (failed on small numberplate)
- I have also repaired the only advisory which was a split CV boot.
The car will come with 2x stock black mx5 tombstone seats + the 2x original Tan leather seats if required. I will also include the JB fab mount so you can fit you’re own bucket seat however the corbeau pictured is staying (unless you are a racing snake like myself) you’ll struggle to fit in it!
The underside of the car hasn’t been undersealed however is in VGC for its age, With the hardtop you will have no issues with water collecting. The soft top has no rear window ( it cracked! ) hence why I bought the hardtop. It’s still usable though on drives out.
The one annoying thing is i’ve lost all of the history the car came with, It had a massive stack of receipts from both Japan/uk owners. I also misplaced the V5. I had to send away for a replacement to tax the car last week which I am still waiting to arrive. But the car is in my name on the V5. Hopefully I will be able to find all the paperwork prior to it going. I know it’s somewhere.
In short – This is an ideal summers toy or track project. An already sorted chassis, solid chassis with a years MOT. I’m only selling as i’m hankering after another Integra dc2.
