I have no idea what a mk1 from almost 30 years ago would have as standard - insurance companies can't seriously expect Jo(e) Public to know that... lol

Have to say I disagree with the enthusiasm for rainsports having had them before. Sure they grip ok and would certainly be better than the tyres you currently have, but, they ruin the feel on turn in. Much in the same way as toyo T1Rs have a "sporty" looking tread pattern, those tread blocks have Canoe all support and wriggle around ruining the feel of the car. I would pay a little more and go for something like the PS3 as mentioned above, or khumo hs51 if on a budget.

No complaints about the rainsports here, loads of grip in the wet and dry and no issues with the sidewalls being too soft. I had the Dunlop Blue response and they has soft side walls. Good grip but a weird sensation when cornering hard, like the whole front end shifting slightly.

I have the Dunlop SportBluresponse on a spare set of alloys, they are quite a bit cheaper than the PS3 if you are budget constrained, they are not as good as PS3, don’t have the ultimate grip but they are not prarrie canoe, it’s a predictable tyre in both wet and dry and as a road tyre they seem awesome, so quiet! They chop out a lot of road noise of other tyres I run and have good road compliance most likely due to soft sidewalls, so not amazing for motorsport but a great tyre to ride on if your just after a solid road tyre.
The Kumho HS51 is another good shout on a budget.

Noise from tyres is the least of my worries - wind noise, exhaust noise, rattles and engine noise are all louder than tyres lol

I would never buy Toyo for the road based on my experience with the T1-S - they just rolled onto the sidewalls so it felt like you were going to understeer into what you were trying to avoid, the grip was binary (as in it was there then it was gone, with no way to 'play' at the limit), and in the wet they were plain dangerous.
I swapped to Goodyear F1s - stunning tyre, could just drive round the outside of people on wide roundabouts in the wet lol
EDIT: this was all on a 55-profile tyre, but I read similar from lower profile users also.

I have been trying my hardest to stay out of this but... Fail Sounds like turning up a hill on a tight bend will be your alignment failing you but I'm sure there was a lot of off camber or camber on that specific turn which means most alignments would not help unless they were dialled into that much off or on camber. Of course ditchfinder tyres won't help. Rainsports are the one in the wet. Ricky stormed ahead at a flooded racetrack last winter opposed to me on my summer tyres.. BUT.. I am sorry to say, if it's wet be careful with your car, it's rear wheel drive and wet, infact don't drive with any sort of anger in the wet unless your on a race track, even then you gotta take it easy, these are rear wheel drive sports cars, they need to be respected. The rear end stepped out on the hill because you applied too much throttle.

i am probably being a bit harsh sorry. even if you was not on the throttle around the corner your entry may have been too fast or you may have changed down a gear without matching your engine speed which in turn would cause your rear to rotate. just take it easy out there. dam i am getting old.

I had ditch finders when I first got my first mx5. That was like driving on ice when it rained. I have to say though with both the bluerespone and the rainsport there's plenty of grip. Enough to not have to worry about loosing grip in the wet when just driving normally and enough to push it a little with plenty of grip to spare. I've had no squeeky bum time in the wet or dry with these tires.
