After blowing my budget on the mk1 after only 2 weeks, I've been told (hopefully it's BS) that my wheels are Magnesium minilites. I fear the worst, I've heard thet mags are not suitable for road use, they don't last long, bend, fracture, corrode badly and can even catch fire if they overheat? Can anyone tell me if they are mags? If they are, what's the safest/best option, new wheels or chance it? There's a small round hallmark/thingy that hopefully means something to someone. Cheers

The small round hallmark/thingy says they're Japanese Watanabes. Not sure if these ones are magnesium, easy way to tell would be to weigh them, if they're not less than c.10kg with the tyre, they will be aluminium. Mag ones are pretty rare.

Might be stampings on the back of the spokes / on the mounting face that say the offset etc, so they might mention whether they are magnesium? As above, though, you need to weigh them to be sure. My wheels are apparently magnesium (like wot the ebay listing said ) but I will eat my (non-existent) hat if they are lol

Thanks for the info. At least I know what the markings on the wheels are now, reckon it could point to possible BS about them being mags.

Take the bathroom scales out to the car, get a wheel off, get it weighed, sorted
