I'm having this very dilemma at the minute. I have swayed from Trimm springs to the mk2 setup to Gaz fixed height to something top end and back again.
The mk2 stuff doesn't seem ideal due to expensive s/h stuff which is likely Canoeed anyway. Then you get Gaz/Koni etc but this stuff isn't exactly cheap. Without the adjustability.
Which leaves HSD or Meister. I'm starting to believe the hype. I think. I think the Panda Racing No. 2 had HSD on it, I love that car and wonder is the Meister worth that bit more. Especially as I've heard a few bad reports of spring corrosion.
I'm about to send the car away to The MX5 Restorer to have a fairly big job done so I figure in for a penny in for a pound??? I'll likely wait for a deal and buy whatever is on offer. I've missed the brake line one I think. Just as well...

After further reading it seems MeisterR is much better suited to the road. HSD seems to be a bit firm.
Am I right in saying the MeisterR etc does away with the standard top mounts? Another potential saving and nail in the standard set ups coffin? (Or not if I'm wrong)

Yep, Meisters are entirely their own unit. You remove all of the existing strut&spring combination and the Meisters bolt into its place
HSDs also have less rear travel as they are geared more towards drift use and track

They will be on miata.net I assume - most details are on there Thanks for the suggestion for where to start on spring rates I have done some digging around! www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Parts/Miata/Suspension/Springs.htmlwww.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/61-1664.htmlRacing Beat Miata "Street" Springs 1990-1993 Part Number: 61-1664 Year: 1990-1993 Application: Miata Price: $189.00 "These springs have been designed with a rate increase of approximately 30% (front - 157 lb/in) and 20% (rear - 106 lb/in) with a modest drop of .33-inch (front) and 1-inch (rear). (As compared to a Miata equipped with a manual transmission.) On 1993 models equipped with Bilstein sports package, these springs will lower the rear approximately .75-inch. " ((157/130)*100) = 120.77 lb/in as standard? ((106/120)*100) = 88.33 lb/in as standard? However, this forum thread says slightly different?? www.dfwmiata.com/threads/16885-NA-Miata-OEM-Spring-Rates"Fatcatmotorsports created and host a spreadsheet for this data. Currently the entire sheet is not available. All that seems to work on his site for this now is fatcatmotorsports.com/FRC_1_6...MSDS_1_6NA.htm. From he copy I have downloaded, 90-93 164/97, 94-97 154/97, R-pkg 153/105." which seems to be confirmed in the link mentioned afterwards? users.telenet.be/miata/english/suspension/Springs.htmSpring Rates Written by Lance Schall year / color code / wire dia (inch) / coil inner dia (inch) / free length (inch) / number of coils / spring rate (lbf/in) 1990 front red 0.43 3.27 11.12 5.91 164.17 * 1990 rear blue 0.40 3.27 13.37 7.68 96.94 * 1991 MT front red 0.43 3.27 11.12 5.91 164.17 0.00 1991 MT rear blue 0.40 3.27 13.37 7.68 96.94 0.00 1991 AT front white 0.43 3.27 11.52 6.32 153.52 0.37 1991 AT rear orange 0.40 3.27 13.68 7.96 93.53 0.30 1992 MT front red 0.43 3.27 11.12 5.91 164.17 0.00 1992 MT rear blue 0.40 3.27 13.37 7.68 96.94 0.00 1992 AT front white 0.43 3.27 11.52 6.32 153.52 0.37 1992 AT rear orange 0.40 3.27 13.68 7.96 93.53 0.30 1993 MT front red 0.43 3.27 11.12 5.91 164.17 0.00 1993 MT rear yellow 0.40 3.27 13.72 7.68 96.94 0.00 1993 AT front white 0.43 3.27 11.52 6.32 153.52 0.37 1993 AT rear green 0.40 3.27 14.04 7.96 93.53 0.65 1994 MT front white 0.43 3.27 11.52 6.32 153.52 0.37 1994 MT rear yellow 0.40 3.27 13.72 7.68 96.94 0.35 1994 AT front blue2 0.43 3.27 11.89 6.32 153.52 0.72 1994 AT rear green 0.40 3.27 14.04 7.96 93.53 0.65 Then there's thid thread on ClubRoadster, which seems to be recommending anwhere from 200ish to over 500lb for aftermarket springs! Just to throw another in to the mix... I love my BC Racing shocks. Very comfortable on the road, capable on track, no need to uprate ARBs, no need to adjust settings once you've found the ones you like.
