Hi guys,
I have unfortunately managed to partially strip the the threads in one of my steering rack mount points. It is the top, passenger side bolt hole where the rack retaining bracket bolts to the subframe. There is very little room there, certainly not enough to get a drill in there and as it is the top mount, there is no access to the rear of the subframe.
What are my options??
There appears to be just enough room to get a tap in there using a ratchet. Is it possible to the tap an M12 hole to the next size up (1/2"?) without drilling it out first??
Alternatively, I was thinking of running an M12 tap through it to refresh the threads, sourcing a new bolt and then covering it in JB weld and having it permanently in there?
Anybody experienced out there I would really appreciate your input.
Many thanks.

Comes as a kit that allows you to tap out to a slightly larger size and insert a hardened coil to bring it back to original size threads

I didn't even realise. Should have looked at the 1st post date. I'd be interested anyhow. Even if I don't own a Mk1.

Meh, this forum is young enough that thread revivals aren't an issue
The OP is almost certainly still going to be around in these situations
Helicoils are great. Fully recommend
