Great weekend in the sunshine at Gurston Speed HillClimb. Managed a PB of 43.65 on Saturday and almost matched it but couldn't quite beat it on Sunday timed runs. However very pleased with my speed through Hollow and the finish, just some tidying needed at the approach to Karousel and out of Ashes. Looking to shave at least another second next year to put me in contention. Good to see Sandy Smith and Dave Newman battling it out in the HSA class - Dave is blisteringly quick in his very nicely modded mk1, Sandy is not far behind - great performance for his first time on the hill. An absolutely spectacular crash at 125mph by one of the competitors slowed things up on Sunday, great to see he is sitting up in bed with minor breaks and lots of bruises, it could have been worse, cars our not supposed to fly at 30 feet!! Thanks to John and the rest of my fellow competitors in the MX5 class - usual good company and banter! i dont have a GoPro cos im a cheapskate but Sandys run is very similar to mine just a bit faster:- Looking forward to next season, a few tweaks to the car and some accuracy at the bends should give me better times. If anyone fancies a go at Gurston then i highly recommend the school next year - great day out and you get a lot more driving on the hill than at event days. www.gurstondown.org/gurston-down-hill-climb-school/

I am going to give the school a bash, I reckon there's a good time in my car, I'm just not getting it It was my second time on the hill, not my first, still the first time only had one dry run, so it's as close as, gotta love my excuses
It was a perfect weekend for a championship round, track had more grip than I was brave enough to exploit.
As we're sharing other people youtube vids, here is David Newmans 39.5 in his ITB'd mk1 there is probably more to come from him too, he was getting to grips with the Extreme VR2 tyres.

He just seems to have so much more grip than me, considering the extra torque and power hes laying down. thats decent tyres for you (and a good driver!!)

The school is a great day to learn some new things. The pre season test day in april is also good as you can do a lot of runs. I did 12 last year.

Looks like loads of fun. Is it the last round this weekend coming? Weather looks crap but I think I might go anyway.
