Have been quiet on the forums as of late, especially since 5Fest....
5Fest didn't go well for me at all. Great day and all that, but the car took a real beating.
On the way home the gearbox bearings were noisy, and within a couple of day the brakes were on the metal. I bought front and rear discs and pads but couldn't fit the rears as the winders are broken in both calipers, so the rears are still on the metal while I wait for payday.
In the meantime ive had no choice but to drive it as it's my only car for my 250 mile a week commute, and the gearbox has let go, and taken the engine with it by chucking all its oil out. Because the gearbox bearings were so loud, and I had no warning of oil light or oil pressure, I didn't know... and now the car is a corpse.
So considering the cost of a new engine, gearbox, 2 calipers and fitting it all, a new car is the way to go, but I have no money. If anyone hears of a cheap mk1 coming up over the next few weeks I could well be interested. Don't care about mods as I have a car full of them, don't care for cosmetics or faded paint, don't care if the roof is gone as I have one, dont care about colour, or spec, or condition... as long as its cheap and has an MOT so I can get back to the commute i'll sort the rest. Or, if someone is selling a mk1 and they think they can make more money by selling all their mods separate, maybe a deal can be struck?
Cheers all.

My advice, buy a £500 Micra. It'll take the commute abuse all winter while you sort your 5 and will still be worth £500 when you sell it in the spring.

I think that's where I'm at at the mo, there's actually a px micra at work at the mo that I can get very cheap, to give me a few months of getting g some proper money together to get a better quality car.
Itll give me chance to do something I didn't do with the 5 I have now, buy the right car from the off.

Whatever 5 you get will need work regardless IMO, hope you find something soon, I did 'bangernomics' for a while and as satisfying as it is to sell some crap car 2 years on for at least what you paid for it, it does put you off driving somewhat. Though I did enjoy driving into idiots that's try to cut you up in a jam, lol.

I think your winter Micra is a good idea, season for 5s is nearly over, and if you buy one cheap now you'll just be buying more hassle (and shagging it out through the winter). let me know when you are looking again - happy to help, if there is any near me that you are interested in I can have a first look so you dont waste your time and fuel going to see a "rust free" heap of scrap!!! If the body on your is sound (chassis rails) then a engine and gearbox swap might be a good option, or are you planning to just px it in as it stands??

As above. I have a MK1 1.6 Gearbox you can have for free. Engine is long gone sadly, but I sold that to a mate for £50 and he's doing a whopping turbo monster build with it.
Otherwise, in the for-seeable future I'll probably be getting rid of my Mk2 before the year is out to get another MK1, obviously of no use right now though. It's tatty and will need one sill attending too, but I reckon you'd get a years motoring out it with a bit of dodgy fillering or a mate with a welder. Or an MOT tester mate. If you're still stuck when and if I get rid - I'll let you know.

Thanks for the offers, but I've decided to break the car. Some of the mods on there that came with the car wouldn't have been my first choice, (its came with dualtechs and Id want meisters, etc) so I've committed to breaking it now. The seats and steering wheel are gone, wheels tomorrow, a lot of interest in the dualtechs, a few standard parts gone, need the exhaust and the headlights gone to make some real money.
Then my plan is to get a beater for a few months, save some cash, and buy either a real nice mk1 with no rust, or something that already has FI that I can fix up to mint over time. By the end of October I should have 2500-3000, which should get me something worth having, especially as im buying just before xmas.
Its a shame really. The shell isn't too bad at all, but I've committed now.
If anyone has a turbo/supercharged for sale soon, PM me!

I don't have the budget for fizbnes car... yet.
I've now sold my alloys and seat/steering wheel setup so have a nfew quid to get me a beater for a couple of months, but come the end of October I should have a proper budget for a nice mk1 worth having, or a slightly ropier mk1/mk2 with a turbo on it, which would now be the ideal.
So I'm not in the club at the mo.... but I'll be back soon
