When cutting off old rad hoses don't shove your Stanley knife through the nail of your little finger
Like licking a cactus, its not as good as you think it's going to be...........................

It just dawned on me that somehow I managed to cut the finger on the hand I was holding the knife in
How the heck did I manage that......

Also whilst you're carving your fingers up - sorry changing rad hoses, check the small steel pipe on the waterpump inlet pipe. See my post today NA Coolant loss/use...... Cheers, Pewe

Don't forget the Cursed Water Plug if it's a 1.6!

Don't forget the Cursed Water Plug if it's a 1.6! Is that the one at the back of the head? I had that Canoe go on me a couple of months ago. Thought I'd cooked the engine.

I've noticed on ANOther forum at least two reports in the last two days of the steel pipes on the thermo housing and waterpump inlet failing. Seems as if NA's are reaching the age where it will be a common problem. Time to replace before they cook the engine??

They have been a common failure for a long time
Something worth keeping a good eye on

Is it part of the waterpump itself? As in a new waterpump replaces it?

The inlet is a separate piece that bolts to the side of the water pump

The inlet is a separate piece that bolts to the side of the water pump Available from MX5 Parts, Autolink & no doubt other suppliers. Rel. easy job if tackled from underneath i.e drop the undertray and it's literally a two bolt job but you will need a new front gasket and the O ring which fits into the end of the pipe. Suspect mine was made worse by fitting a new waterpump and disturbing the pipework plus more pressure from the pump. Some you win...... Cheers, Pewe.
