Hello everyone, sorry for being “that” guy that just joins a forum just to sell a car but I'm offering what I hope will be quite interesting to a 5 forum.
Just the facts, ma'am:
1996 1.8 Merlot, 49,000 miles MOT to end of May
brand new extra bits unfitted:
Simpsons shorty rear bumper - v rare
Simpsons euro rear lights - v rare
Moss lo-pro headlights - rare
plus a bunch of other bits
£1,000 for the lot
Shoreham-by-Sea (5 miles west of brighton)
There is quite a long back story as to why I have this car and these parts (which have been around the world a couple of times at this point) and I will be happy to tell to anyone that comes to look at it. I’m selling to make room in the garage for an imminent new car. If I was a bit more organised, I should have sold this first before buying the next one but my being a motivated seller just makes a better deal for you.
I can't post pictures from work but I created an imgur album here:

She’s a 96 mk1 in Merlot with 49,000 miles (the odo reads in km). Not completely rust free but very solid (sills don’t need doing) and definitely not a basket case. A fantastic and reliable drive and everything works apart from the right speaker (the speaker itself works so it’s a wiring issue). Very tidy interior, cloth seats in great condition.
If you want to run it as is then she’s no embarrassment but the paintwork is tired and could do with a respray. The reason this hasn’t been done yet is because you would want to fit the other parts first.
The big bumper-shaped thing in bubble wrap is a Simpson design “shorty” bumper. Simpson is still in business but they only sell full kits now, so you can’t buy these anymore. It’s unpainted but it looks like this when painted (www.gomiata.com/sidenashrebu.html) and you can see that it cost $650 when it was available.
The small tail-lights shaped thing in bubble wrap are Simpson design “euro” tail lights. Even though Simpson doesn’t sell parts anymore, it seems you can still buy them here (www.gomiata.com/sidege1eutak.html) for $450.
Moss lo-pro headlights. It’s this kit (www.moss-europe.co.uk/headlamp-conversion-kit-5-75-halogen-h3-low-profile-rhd-906-056.html) but Moss don’t carry it anymore. The LHD version (www.mossmiata.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=73932) costs $550.
Philips face-off Bluetooth stereo. It’s nothing special but I did buy it for this car and it’s not been used very much. I can throw in the POS stereo that came with it too. In fact, I think I’ll insist that you take it too.
Bonnet strut openers. Again nothing special but they are a nice finishing touch.
OMP steering wheel spacer (fitted on the car) moves the wheel closer to you. It’s one of these in black www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/bosses-fitting-kits/omp-steering-wheel-spacer. If you have long legs but don’t like driving with your arms outstretched, or find your knees banging on the wheel then this is the best mod you can do to your mk1.
There’s probably a few other miscellaneous bits in the garage. If I can find them, I have a set of black leather seat covers from Jack Smith in Swansea in a box somewhere. They were fitted to a previous mx5 I had and are barely used. The only problem (for you) is that they have “Chicken” sewn in black on the headrest. You could unpick the stitching and sew something else over the top. Or you could adopt a new nickname. Anything else mk1 specific that I find in the garage will be thrown in (I think I’ve got a central locking kit in there too).
The only thing I am keeping is the alloy gear knob shown in the interior pictures (for sentimental reasons) but will be replaced with a similar knob.
Bumper $650, tail lights $450, headlights $550 = $1650 = £1100 and that’s not including any of the other stuff. These are all new and unused apart from the spacer, radio and seat covers. And remember, most of this isn’t available even if you wanted to buy it so should be worth more.
I want to sell the whole lot for £1000 - firm. If you really want to haggle then we can pretend that I started at £1500 and you were able to talk me down to £1000. This is a price that tells you that I just want the stuff gone. That’s either the car at market price with all of the parts for free, or the parts at less than market price with a roadworthy mx5 thrown in for free. Or it’s a great deal on both!
If you’re on this forum, chances are you already have your car so you’ll be more interested in the parts. My motivation is to get back the space in the garage so selling the car is more important to me. I’ll sell the car without the parts but I won’t sell the parts without the car.
If you want the parts but don’t want the car, it’ll be up to you to get rid of it. I need to get it out in the next couple of weeks but if you’ve got the time to sell it properly, there’s no reason why you can’t get £1,000+ for it and get the parts for free. Or club together with a mate who wants a car and make you both happy.
I’m in Shoreham-by-Sea on the south coast. I work in London so weekday viewings can only be after 7, although the garage light is decent.
Please call me on O7971 533 888 if you’ve got any questions.
