The heritage shells have been around for a few years, only Mk3 shells before and MK1 as of this year. I don't think they can be used for an IVA though, shame because building a MK1 with an 18 plate would be awesome.

If everything else (bar a couple of bits) is brand new it should qualify. Bloody expensive way of doing it though 😱

I don't know why, and yes it would be damn expensive!! £10k just for the shell, you'd be looking at a £20-30k Mini if you went all new parts.

Wonder what the final budget for Project Binky will be. Well I say "final". Like it's going to finish. It amuses me to think they started off seeing if they could fit one car's engine and running gear into another car just because they had them both, but the budget for the whole project (if you put a price on labour) must make the cost saving of already owning the cars utterly inconsequential. They could have chosen virtually any two cars imaginable and not noticed the cost. Hey, that's a thought: What else could you put inside that Heritage shell? Electric Mini, anyone?

I've seen RWD Minis, Bike-engine Minis, mid/rear engine Minis... Electric would probably weigh far too much! The heritage shells have been around for a few years, only Mk3 shells before and MK1 as of this year. If everything else (bar a couple of bits) is brand new it should qualify. Bloody expensive way of doing it though 😱 IIRC someone on one of the Ford forums built a 3-door Cosworth from new parts and managed to get it registered with the reg plate "Y2 KRS" (Y2K RS) - no idea how much it cost, but I think it was a case of having to register it because after that point, it would have been impossible to do so due to the CO2 emissions tax changes (or something like that??). Either way, way cool

A mini will never pass IVA without substantial modifications to meet modern construction and use regs. It wouldn’t look much like a mini afterwards. Far easier to pick up a v5 and vin off eBay. It’s technically illegal but it’s rife with minis and series land rovers etc.

Would you be able to get an age related plate based on the model?

Forget that question, just read requirements on Gov.UK site

When I built mine it was the SVA so slightly different but it mostly just needed a ridiculous amount of rubber trim on the edges so pedestrians don't think 'ow that cycle wing is really sharp' when you run them over. Or something like that 😜

One of the classic mini guys did a ton of investigation. There was stuff around the body seams, bumpers, switch gear and it’s location, radius of this that and the other. Conclusion was totally unviable, especially when V5s are easy to come by.

Sounds like it's got a lot harder then. Although you can change it all after the SVA 😃
