Just a quick (and slightly triumphant) post to confirm that the Project M door bars do fit in a mk1 alongside Mazdaspeed seats. Which are quite wide. I'm only bothering to mention this because there was no way for me to know whether they would before I bought them, and there's a possibility this knowledge will help someone else... The bars aren't actually bolted in yet, but a quick test fit shows them neatly clearing the seat's adjustment mechanism and the front bolster. Obviously, I haven't tested the effectiveness of the bars in any way, but I have to say that so far I'm impressed with their heft and the design, which hugs the door card super tight but passes under the the standard mk1 arm rest. Should Russell - Vindi, the man behind Project M - be reading this, if you could possibly dig out the fitting instructions, I'd be obliged. I could do with some pointers for the intended attachment at the front. Cheers!

Just need some guidance on how they fit at the front really - while I'm sure I could figure it out an idea of the intention would be handy!

Hi Russell?
Some info on how they're supposed to fit at the front would definitely be handy.
Cheers!

I'll message you some pics & instructions if I can find them but basically the spacer tubes are provided to support the chassis because it's double skinned there. If you just put a bolt through and tightened it, the chassis would be squashed together and therefore weakened.
You need to drill 20mm holes for the spacer tubes to slide in on one side, they should then sit flush with the chassis and you'll drill a (9mm?) hole for the bolts to go through at the other side. You can do it all from the inside, or remove the front wing and do half from each side.
Hope that kind of helps ... I'll dig out the pics I took when I fitted mine as it will explain it a lot better!

That makes sense - just wasn't sure if there was a sensible side to make the larger holes, or whether I should just make a single (central?) one for maximum strength.
Anyways - cheers!
