Hi All, Andy here (AbstractAndy). Just a quick few lines to introduce myself, as you may have gathered from the title, I suspect Im not the youngest here :-). Background in motor engineering (well, Leyland, so some may argue that statement) but lost interest in cars, other than as covered transport, many years ago, happier on two wheels. Anyway @ 60 I got an early pension and decided, just for a laugh, to take a visit to my local dealer Mazda and got talked into a test drive in a 2011 Sport Tech..... Wow! third childhood officially begins. I am now the proud owner of an MX5, I had forgotten how much fun a "real" car can be. I'll head off and have a read around the forums to familiarise myself with whats going on here, best to all. Andy

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you are enjoying the joys of 'outdoor motoring' without the risk of falling off lol (Although given recent weather, it's still possible, even with four wheels... )

Hi Guys, wow, quick response on this forum :-). I'm in South Oxfordshire and with the weekends local weather I was glad to be on 4 wheels trying to get to work on Sunday...emphasis on "trying", had to turn back half way..

Having seen some pictures of the area, I'm not surprised! I seemed to get away with it on my journey to Surrey at the weekend...came back to a Christmas postcard in Biggin hill though Depending how south ofxordshire it is, there is an evening meet in Bracknell on the last Thursday of every month. Next one is 28th Dec

Hi FFS Corders, Thanks for the Heads up on the meet, is that a Mighty5s thing or another group? I believe the MX5 owners club has meets close by but haven't looked into it yet. Bracknell is about a legal hour away so would be a nice option, just a matter of working things in with family and work shifts...... Oh what it was like to be free (memory still working) :-)

I think it started as a Planetmx5 meet but is advertised on pistonheads, mx5nutz and here
Mx5oc get a bit sniffy about people to meets if they aren't members, but the benefits like 10% off at halfords, cheap mx5 only trackday and two big events a year plus free Thursday Goodwood tickets mean I haven't felt a need to attend any of their local meets

Hi andy,
Welcome from another NC owner!
Whereabouts in south Oxon? My folks live in Henley and spent most of my youth in that area. Sadly I’m now down in Basingstoke.

Details for the OC meets are here: www.mx5oc.co.uk/areas/oxford/I've attended a total of two. Wasn't really my cup of tea to be honest. I seemed to be the youngest there, by about 20 years! The spring and annual rallies are worth attending though.

I had this problem when I went to OC meet - once only, (Wessex area) and Im no spring chicken, raffles, cake sales, trips to the New Forest to play games (no not that sort!!) - WTF its a canoeing car club, it was winter admittedly but they were rolling up in their German barges and eurorepmobiles, seemed a bit pointless Dont think the chromium junkies would appreciate my scruffy mk1 anyway!!!

It's an acquired taste for sure. But the rallies are brilliant as is the yearly trackday

Hi again all, not used to forums so if I'm getting out of sequence please say. Jumping back to Horney's post I'm by Berinsfield/Dorchester so not to far from JamesMk3 it seems. As for Rickystickers post, well, with the big build up of raffles, cake sales AND trips to the New Forest, you darned never had me signing up there and then!

Welcome to the forum.
I went to a Linc's owners club and must have been the youngest owner there by a couple of decades, spoke to one couple about a fantastic local road and they said they didn't use it as there were too many corners? And when they planned the next run out based on which garden centre baked the best cake I instantly made my mind up not to bother again.

I have always called the local meets the "fish tea brigade"
