It's broken!
Went to use it this morning and it wouldn't start, flat battery. Which is odd as it's been fine and I left nothing on. The only thing I've changed is fitting the induction kit but that shouldn't cause a battery drain.
Annoyed.

Turns out the last owner hadn't bothered to tighten up the battery terminal clamps. The live was loose which was the problem. All good again now. Update time. Firstly, took it to JapDay at Castle Combe where it ran perfectly and I got sunburnt. Epic day. IMG_5018 by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Secondly, stuck it on the rollers at the Dyno Day. It made a disappointing 99bhp at the wheel. It seemed to have a misfire as well which was odd as it's never had one before. Not massively fussed at this point as it drives beautifully and puts strongly. I'll shortly be giving it all new fluids, leads and plugs so it'll be interesting to pop it back on afterwards and see what difference that makes. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Thirdly, when I bought it I knew it was a bit rotten and would need some welding for the MOT. Well the MOT ran out on the 20th so I strong armed Skuzzle into giving me a hand to patch the old girl up. Drivers side which was the worst. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Passenger side Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Patch on the drivers side Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr There the only photos I have at the moment. Both sides are now stone chipped and ready for the MOT on Tuesday. Once it's passed I'll strip the stone she back off and properly tidy the patches up, reapply the stone ship and rattle can some of the Merton red over the top. Important thing is it wasn't too bad under the outer skin and it should be all good for the next few years. The rest of the car is rot free so I need to get under there and underseal it all before the winter. Fourthly, sourced a strut brace for free. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Finally in this update, I got round to stripping down to GAZ coilovers I acquired a while back ready to be sent off to GAZ for a refurb. Should hopefully have them back in just over a week. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Still got lots to do. I haven't got round to fitting the better nose cone or OEM lip that I bought for it. I need to buy a new radiator and fit that as well. Next up for this wee beauty is 3 days blatting round the Evo Triangle towards the end of June. I better pull my finger out!

The OEM lip is the one to go for in my opinion. I had a GV one my first five last year it lasted 5 minutes as soon as the snow came and they look out of place unless you have huge wide wheels. Car looks really nice. Love the wheels.

I have a GV lip on the green one. It's been on 5 years and hammered off rumble strips and been in several gravel traps, still attached (Just). It's a gen GV one though which probably makes the difference. The OE lip on this one is from kir1 aka JapStyle and it was dead easy to fit and came with all the mounting hardware. Very impressed.

Or the fact it's been fitted properly?! admittedly my GV (fake) Lip was self tappered on due to the fact getting the front bumper off a rusty old mk1 aint easy! My OEM lip was from Adam at Japstyle, great service and this time I did fit it properly, bumper off and bolted it up nice and tight! What are the wheels you're running on this? I love them on 14's they are the perfect size for a B roaster blaster. Nice and light don't want anything monstrous for smashing down the back lanes

They're a JDM wheel, I bought them off Skuzzle. I can't remember the brand name but I know of only two other sets and both owned by a mate. They're incredibly light and combined with the Uniroyal Rain Experts make the perfect wheel/tyre combo for a british B-road 5.

They're incredibly light and combined with the Uniroyal Rain Experts make the perfect wheel/tyre combo for a british B-road 5. As is with most Rare wheels, Same goes for the panasport's on mine, they're stamped up 5.5j but have no idea on the offset. Do know they have little spacers on the front's to clear the calipers but they are the same, super light. Never felt a lighter set of wheels off a road car in my life. I was going to stick the E30 BBS wheels on for the road but having had such light/skinny wheels on it for so long I can see it changing the steering feel too much! I'm after a set of new 14" tyres for my wheels as we speak though, I did run some uniroyal rainsport's on a rallye i had a few years back and remember them being both good in the dry/wet conditions. Rain experts any different? Pretty limited for a good 14" tyre that's the only downside to the size these days

Just had a read - I can't believe they are £30 each including VAT! Definitely going to have a set of these on my 14's. I've always said I think there would be TOO much grip on a stock(ish) 5 with A048's/888's so these will slot in that middle gap perfect!
