Hello all.
Whilst my ongoing, sort of, Jaguar V6 project languishes at my mates Engineering Company I have turned my attention to my MX-5 and this years track days and what to do.
It's booked in for a different than normal turbo build in the next few weeks.
I've been looking for a racing seat for almost a year now.
Won't fit, too uncomfortable, too expensive ya ya....
So spurred on by reports of the Corbeau NFX seat I went this morning to Corbeau to try one out. Corbeau is only 10 minutes from my house.
After reading so many good things about this seat here is what I say.
Good grief! It's a shockingly horrible seat. Yes I know, you've got one and it's great, what am I talking about?
Well if you've got one and it is great then I'm truly happy for you.
But here is what I say.
Firstly, I'm 6'0" tall and weigh in at 14.5 stones in weight and have a 34" waist.
So that's about 1.8M + tall, 92 + Kg and about 87cm waist.
The flex to the whole seat but especially the back is just terrible, no wonder it's not approved for racing.
The padding below your rear canoe is minimalistic indeed and at a 34" waist it's tight.
The back is narrow in width and pinches.
Utterly disappointed I pointed to another seat there.
Turns out to be the DFX ..... now discontinued.
Well this, in my opinion is a belter of a seat.
Has good padding under your rear canoe, is wider than the NFX so I sit in it with some room at the waist, it's back is broader so no pinching.
It's narrower across the "wings" than the Club Sport by at least 1.5" and we know they fit in the MX-5 and there is no flex in its structure.
So I bough it.
Complete with runners and side mounts all in £225.00.
Here is a picture of It.
Now I'm not crazy about the blue piping. But my car is blue so it sort of works.
They do come, or rather did come with black piping. This one is the very last of the new unsold seats.
I'm going to be fitting it over the next few days and telling you how it all goes.
Oh, what was wrong with the Mk2.5 seat I have in my Mk2.0? Well with crash helmet on, a hard top fitted I was very close, too close to the underside of the hard top. My hard top is a permanent fixture.
So this is some how going to be a lower seat installation how I'm not sure yet but it will be.
So if you are looking for a comfortable cheap secondhand seat maybe this thread will be for you.......
Regards.
Rich.
