When I first got my mx5 all those years ago I lowered it on eBay coil overs and as of late their getting on my tits tbh its more of the height and obviously the ride isn't really refined but they do the job as the sold shocks where cream crackered.
Obviously people usually recommend hsds and meister, tbh I don't no if I can be rear canoed with height adjustment, I was thinking of going for the kyb agx or maybe getting a set of konis I wondered if anyone uses a set of fixed height "coilovers" leaning towards the kyb agx's as the minute just as of price and apparently the ride is very good ?

The KYNs are very well regarded. I believe Meister are working with Skuzzle on a fixed height setup.

I have Koni sports on the NB, very good. Slightly lower than standard and an excellent ride all round.

Yellow koni with tei springs are awesome. It's what Fizbne had on his old silver mx5 and they felt great

I had KYB AGX and Flyin Miata springs and extended rear top mounts on my Red MK1. Wasn’t amazing on track but it was epic on the road. The total cost was near HSD DTs when it was all bought new (by the previous owner!) but it was worth it for a road focussed car over cheap coilovers.

Cheers guys tbf starting to do the ocasional track days and when eventually sort out bristol motor club hopefully do a few sprints and autocross days I thought with the kybs as they have adj dampening I can firm them up a bit to make them a bit more effective, but saying that ruining the road use does take a lot of the fun out of it for me as I live next to some nice roads kinda looking for a decent coil over that can cope with both.

Another vote for Koni, one of the best handling 5s I've owned was a Mazdaspeed car with Koni shocks. I know people like to go for fully adjustable shocks bit it's a load of marketing rubbish really, you set the height once, then never touch them again ... as for the bump and rebound, most people just set them to whatever the manufacturer recommends.

KYB AGX are garbage in my experience. Both damping quality and durability wise. My only other experience is with GAZ classics, which were OK and my current setup which is magic(TM) Ohlins... Me, for a sensible budget, I'd go for the konis for a road car. Or do something like this: www.clubroadster.net/vb_forum/22-suspension/198881-budget-bilstein-ballers.html (tho most stuff raved about on CR can be taken with a bucket of salt!)

I’m a big fan of height and preload adjustable shocks purely because of the ability to corner weight and flat floor your car. Why people don’t do this after fitting them I will never know but it was the best £250 I ever spent.
However I appreciate on top of a £££ outlay on shocks it is a big chunk of extra cash. A well matched spring and damper at a sensible height, plus a good alignment, will get you 90% there. No point going full adjustable unless you go the whole hog.
