Just joined and looking forward to getting involved.
I’m on my second MX5, both NA versions. The first was a lovely green which had been modified with aftermarket wheels, roll-over bar, lowered suspension, removable steering wheel, aftermarket exhaust etc. It had best part of 200K miles on the clock and was a little ropey. It had no MOT and a variety of issues. Once MOT’d I drove it and loved it. It handled well, sounded nice and put a smile on my face. However, it had its issues. The gearbox was knotchy (especially into second gear), the sills neede proper repairs rather than the patch repairs and the dash rattled as it was missing various fixings. In the end I decided to sell up and buy something a bit better. So, I sold it for about what I paid for it and went on the hunt for a second one.
i managed to stumble on a local black ‘91 NA with 80K (ish) and standard except for a set of 16” MK2.5 wheels with old Toyo proxies and a re-located numberplate. The handling is scary especially in damp conditions as the back end steps out all over the place and suffers huge amounts of understeer. Rubbish old tyres. I’ve now sourced some 15” Rota RB’s which will be going on with new tyres. First track day booked at Abingdon on March 23rd which I’m looking forward to. Just need to get a service done between now and then.
Some mistakes already made. I should of taken some of the better parts off the first MX5. After adding up the prices for all the bits I need / want for the new one makes it more frustrating as I had the bits on the original one.
I’ll get some pictures posted at some point.
