Sat 24th March is the Bristol Motor Club flagship sprint at Combe first round of the MX5 challenge and myself and others will be competing (it's the biggest class - 17 entries) but more importantly there are loads of other great cars to watch, classics, hot hatches and blisteringly quick single seaters well worth watching and it's free come and say hello

You weren't wrong there, it was a long but great day out. I got assigned to the pit lane post with an experienced marshall, Chris, who had many entertaining stories about some of his many marshalling experiences, whilst watching you lot hurtle around Camp Corner. It looked like a lot of fun, and as Ricky said there were some seriously quick machines as well.

What a great day, I had a PB even though the track was damp compared to last year, very pleased with how the car performed - Meisters made a big difference, first timed run was good and I would have been faster on my second but got quarry wrong the second time around (i tried to brake later but then was late turning in and missed the apex by about 10 feet so was slower at the exit. lost me a second or two at least!!) First trip to Combe where i have actually got Camp right Finished 5th out of 14 and there was only 3 seconds between top 6 places, its going to be a competitive challenge this year Second fastest mk1 after Andy Laurence who is way more experienced than me and for the first time ever was faster than James

I missed it, out with man flu but was wishing I was there, Combe in tricky conditions I can do, lots of wet experience there, could have took some scalps. Well done on your performance, James won't be happy, he was hoping this year would be his but some tough competition, Andy has a Mk2, so does that make you fastest mk1?

I hear one of the top guys broke a lap record?
What’s the new surface like?

Top girl , Heather Calder smashed it. Think it was a 59.24s lap but its unofficial I think as its not a proper lap start line to start line but the splits from the sprint, it is a lap though and a bloody quick one. think she took the sprint record for GWS.
New surface is OK, felt a bit slippy on the trackday but it is a new surface reckon it will only get better. Though to be fair I'd switched from 1B to 1A so the slippyness might be related to that and it was a bit damp? Seemed to leave a lot more standing water about but can't be sure if that is juts my dodgy memory and the repainted kerbs where I usually spend most of my time were bloody lethal with a bit of water, I was doing a bottas with my high level of kerb greed no walls for me though.

There was quite a big puddle on the turn in to Camp. Got back from lunch and the Clerk had decided it had to go. Ten minutes of frantic brooms action, and the assistance of a blower eventually had it gone. The grass being at the same level doesn't allow any runoff so it was stubborn to disperse. Seemed worthwhile though as I noticed most taking a wider line before turning in once it dried out.
Heather's run was pretty epic - and dad Colin was obviously trying too hard during the top 12 run off to try and match it, and ended up going off.

Whilst waiting for my run I was watching them doing the driver changeover - much respect - that’s dedication, she was running around starting leaf blowers for brake cooling, getting stuff ready, then getting in the car for her run! I was tired watching them! Start the car, stick my helmet on - nuff for me🤣
