I have been offered a nice little mk1 and even though I have my nc1, I miss the older cars. The offered car is a '91 white uk 1.6. I have a good old friend with a classic car restoration business, so I am not concerned if the car needs some rust work over the next few years. The cars seller is honest far beyond what you could expect him to be and has sent me a couple of photos.I know it's a tough call and I really should be over there with a magnet but does anyone feel like giving an opinion before I agree to buy in principle and jump on the train. The mot trail is good, never failed on the usual prescribed seatbelt areas and only one advisory - a while ago.

Not surface rust. Coming from inside.

Also it doesn't look like the original spot welds are visible, and if they're not then the car's had bodywork repairs in the past making it a bit of a lottery as to how good the work was.

Not the worst I've seen (or owned!).. and in my experience they don't fail until they're bad. But as others have said it will be all falling apart inside.

Thanks gents, I really appreciate the second opinions.I was concerned that I was being overly picky after my mk2 experiences,
I think I will have to pass on this one. That Mk2 car went from almost blemish free to a full cut and replace project within a year and a half.
I'll keep shopping.
