Yes I have seen something similar The phrase "just because you can doesn't mean you should" comes to mind!
I assume if they protrude past the tyre edge then they are completely illegal?

Could be worse. They could be aluminium I think you'll find a lot of them are alloy. A friend had a set of these (https://rev9autosport.com/326power-80mm-lug-nuts.html) on a set of Weds Kranze deep-dish wheels on an S13 Silvia. I seem to recall he said he used a nylon socket, and couldn't use a windy gun on them.

Could be worse. They could be aluminium Used alu nuts on my red roadster for 4 years with lots of track outings - zero problems. Mind you, no winter driving, no impact guns and a torque wrench every time. Of course it's just anecdotal experience.

Going from what an ex-plod acquaintance of mine said about the fact my exhaust protrudes past the bumper, it's 3-points for 'dangerous condition' if they are feeling not very friendly...
