Hi all.
I almost have my mk1 back on the road, which is very exciting given that I’ve never really driven it!
However, I have found going into 2nd is a bit of a pain and it feels like I’m having to force it a little (particularly changing down). Also, the spring action in moving across the gate from neutral to 1st & 2nd is very weak, whereas it feels normal going no the other way.
Does this sound like an issue with the gearbox itself, or more just the gearshifter could use a rebuild & new turret oil?

Changing down into 1st and 2nd can be notchy if the gearbox oil is still cold, if you haven't changed the oil and turret oil might be worth a go.
Other than that could be a clutch issue (fluid, mast cylinder, slave cylinder), I'm sure someone who knows more than me will be along soon.

I thought they were all tricky into second? lol
I let it return to the centre of the gate and then move it into second - seems to work and be easier than double-declutching!

Is this a normal kind of thing then? I was expecting the fabled ‘rifle bolt’ gear shift....!
The lack of spring action across the left hand side of the gate seems wrong though. Is that a gearbox issue or shifter?

I've never noticed any problem going up or down between first and second, and as I do autosolos it's a change I have to do more than usual. I'd look under the gaiter and just check turret oil etc. It also may be a clutch issue - low gears tend to show it up first, leaky slave cylinder maybe?
