Evening all, Hoping for a steer on this issue I have. I've got a fibreglass part, a Zoom Radio Console, which has a couple of marks in the finish. There's a small star crack and some pitting from what looks like gaffa tape. Both bits appear to be in the surface only, i.e there's no visible crack or damage to the underside of the surface. What's my best approach to repair this? I was thinking rub down affected areas with perhaps 200/400/600 grit, then several coats of plastic primer, rub down with very fine paper, then finish with several coats of satin black. Not my usual bag so would appreciate any advice!

Will the tape marks come off with a bit of WD40? or has it eaten into the surface....

Looks like the glue has reacted with the finish. Sand back and for the cracks fill with some fresh resin and sand back smooth again.

The resin you use to set fibre glass. I think you can get in it Halfords.

Depends on whether the part was moulded with polyester or epoxy resin originally, always best to use the same resin type on the repair

Hi, Its unlikely the part has been made with epoxy resin, It does not work well with chopped strand mat and is very expensive. The finish on the part looks like dashboard spray paint. I suspect that the tape residue is under the paint finish. As far as repair goes the cracks should be scratched out, I use a Stanley blade to V out the damage then it needs to be filled with gelcoat or a similar stopper I use acrylic filler for some jobs. It will be almost impossible to match the surface finish. The whole thing will need to be sprayed with dashboard paint afterwards. Does it look like any overspray on the back of it ? Best of luck
