My son came home this afternoon having had his pride and joy, a rare, distinctive and expensive mountain bike nicked from the city centre - to say he was gutted doesn't even come close. His plan (He's 16) is to sell it to fund a car purchase when the time comes.....so he keeps it in great condition. Cue the angry dad routine from me then soon...all is calm. I ring the Police who take a full description of the bike and really do seem genuinely interested, I then tell them that I fully intend to look for this bike and to take it back using force if necessary, so if I'm lucky enough to see it and they receive a call they should please attend pronto to prevent a breach of the peace. We search around all the usual scumbag hangouts but, after an hour of driving around, nada, so we head home along the High st. talking about how best to replace it. THEN....we spot it....being wheeled along by a very dodgy yet likely looking type......I bell it in and guide the cops towards us but it looks like I'm gonna lose him....so, swallowing a brave pill I walk up alongside....and give him ten seconds of shock and awe before wheeling the bike back to my van, wave to the bus driver I've held up and wait for the cops. Result !
I almost thought better of going for a drive round........but I'm over the moon that I did !

haha Nice Direct Action seems to be the only way to deal with these people nowadays, as the Police have too much else to deal with. I've always wondered about doing a Citizens' Arrest - surely that's just likely to get you injured yourself because they'd laugh at you then kick off??
