Just read the whole thread and I'm glad I did - thanks for posting the link. What scenery, what an adventure. Such tenacity and such a great little car ! Great write up too which has got me thinking of a European trip next year....
On a MUCH smaller scale me and the Mrs were at a loose end yesterday so took a little fast road trip from Lincoln up to Beverley and on to Malton, Pickering, Whitby and the Esk Valley. Stopping for Suggitts Ice Cream in Great Ayton before heading back over some of my 'old favourite' roads- Great Broughton to Helmsley, Wetwang, Tibthorpe and Cherry Burton......what a hoot !

Trip of a lifetime. If you ever find yourself in the opportunity to do this.
Do it.

My longest drive in a 5 was when I moved to Spain in 2005, 1350 miles from Cheshire to Valencia in my second V special, (first was written off when I was rear ended) cost me a grand in UK, ran it for three years then registered it on Spanish plates and sold it to an Italian for 3k euros, he took it back to Italy, a much travelled Miata. Never missed a beat.

Awesome
I've wanted to do this for ages, although apparently, according to the missus, it wouldn't be in the 5...
Given that 3 seats will be the minimum required in the not too distant future, it won't be happening for a long time!
I'm slightly amazed that they decided to do that trip with crank pulley wobble already diagnosed That is brave!! lol
Weren't we talking about doing a Mighty5s Run To Scotland, or whatever it's called? We should get that organised
I still have fear of being stuck somewhere and not being able to communicate due to lack of English/Foreign Language skills, so this country is about my limit lol

I did 3000 miles with a severe oil usage problem, with my mate's vw t4 camper nursing a split coolant reservoir Both survived perfectly until the weekend after I spun a shell on a trackday

This kind of thread is why I love forums. Lots of pictures too. Nice to see 'normal' people writing about their (extra-ordinary) experiences. I read through the thread and didn't see a single negative reply. You'd never get anything like that on FaceAche, save for the odd link to hipster "I'm going on a roadtrip to find myself" pretentious blogs.

I'd be up for an organised forum run out and, as I now live in deadly boring, flat agricultural Lincolnshire my vote would be a hoon around the North Yorkshire Moors. The starting point could be the Humber Bridge for accessibility ....then on country roads to RAF Fylingdales and Whitby....before taking the tight coast road up to Saltburn (check out videos of Saltburn Bank !!!).....before switching back toward Helmsley and a spirited return south to Beverley. I realise this isn't going to be local for everyone here but its going to be well worth the drive, believe me. Once the kids are back at school of course

Read this yesterday, looks a great trip. Would love to do something similar. I'd just worry the dualtechs would make it an awful long distance drive. Awesome

Great trip I did something similar in my nb some years ago, going from Lund (Sweden) to Florence (italy) much along the same routes as you. The alps in a cabriolet is just about the best thing ever!
