Firstly I've got to say that removing the headlight lenses is a ball-ache - but it is achievable ! You must remove the four bolts at the top of the nose cone and gently bend it to allow the unit to pass. If you're struggling take deep breath, find a pal to help (or blame if something goes crack) and take your time.... Using the low bake oven method I separated the two halves and removed the offending (to my eyes anyway) orange indicator lenses. With hindsight I ought to have cleaned the inside of the lenses thoroughly while I had the chance too.... Once I refitted the units....(a bit of an rear canoe of a job) I admired my de-tangoed lights but had less admiration for the yellowy staining and general milky appearance..... So it was out with the machine polisher, 1200, 200 and 3000 wet and dry and Mothers plastic polish (I'd ran out of Meguiars Plast-X and was keen to try something new) First pass with 1200 grit paper, well soaked and with a drop of liquid soap added Produces a hazed opaque appearance but don't panic, remembering to keep your rubbing even and to keep it wet....

Work next with the 2000 grit then the 3000 wiping clean occasionally and looking for signs of unevenness and missed areas The lights will become less cloudy and exceptionally smooth to the touch. Now its time for the machine. The polisher I use is a Dual Action fitted with a three inch pad, spritzed with Meguiars Last Touch and coated with a good dollop of the Mothers Plastic Polish.... Nice even passes on a low to moderate speed spreads the product nicely and reduces sling, then increasing the speed and pressure on the head - polish to a clear finish. Getting there....... Repeat as desired..... Personally I'm ok with the finish (I ran out of time) but I will be polishing further at each wash in the meantime

are you going to coat the lenses with some kind of uv protector, i've polished the lights on my mk3 a couple of times and they go cloudy again after a couple of weeks.

Hi Dave, in the past on most other cars I've simply flatted, polished and then waxed them along with the bodywork and they remained clear. These seem very slightly clouded from the inside (!) so I may take them apart again to clean and polish the inner surface as well. I had a V70 T5 which I used the lacquer method with and they really did look amazing so if these cloud again thats what I'll do.
