Hi,
I am considering my first track day in a month or two I was thinking it would be good for both myself and others to get a thread going with regards to sensible wears, mandatory wears, etiquette and recommendations on kit (helmets, shoes etc.)
Thanks

Long sleeves and trousers is usually a must. I usually try to wear comfortable gear, not too baggy. I just use my motorbike helmet at the moment. I didn't initially have gloves or racing boots but did buy some eventually and they actually do make a difference.

There's a few of us going to Abingdon on April 22nd with Motorsport Events. It's great airfield layout that suits beginners just as well as regulars.

My advice might not be the same as some of the others, but just wear whatever you're comfortable in. Long sleeves, long trousers, but whatever shoes you normally wear, no gloves unless you wear them regularly while driving. You could buy all the kit but unless you're doing trackdays very regularly, I don't think it's necessary.

Don't buy a helmet without trying a few on.
It's not about brand names it's about the fit and comfort.
MSV tracks require full face helmets on open roof cars so if you plan on having the roof there then you need a full face helmet.

He's in Abingdon or close, I've already invited him to join! I am indeed in Abingdon, about 5 minutes away from the airfield! Sam has invited me along, my car probably won't be quite up to the task though! I can't imagine the standard 1.6 brakes will do well on track with the turbo, not to mention the inevitable teething problems!

I drove there last year with 190whp and standard 1.6 brakes. They did OK with yellow stuff pads. If you're not working on that day come down and for £20 you can get some passenger laps with us lot.

Only a tenner for passenger rides now, £20 for additional drivers.

As the others have said clothes and helmet wise, you can change and add shoes etc to your kit if you need to in the future. Its all really just a case of making sure you keep enough spare fluid for the car incase you need it, 9 times out of 10 you wont but the one time you dont have oil or coolant will be the time they need topping up.
Most importantly just enjoy the day and dont worry about being slow, or holding people up. take things at your own pace and build up to getting fast as you feel you can.

Other than what's been said I've found its the stupid stuff that helped me improve.I love my puma drift cats I highly recommend them, loads of feel and a nice rolled heel. Maybe pick up a cheap set of karting gloves if you have a leather wheel. If you have a bucket seat have a good wiggle in it as your gonna get thrown about a bit, sparco do good range of cushions to pad it out.
