I haven't made much progress with the car for the last few months, largely because I managed to almost sever the end of my right index finger and at the same time remove most of the skin from my right skin. Note to self... you can't stop half a ton of plywood sheets from falling over with one hand.
On the bright side though, the play cockpit I was building at the time has surprisingly turned out ok.
I originally saw this play cockpit at Poznan airport and thought it's pretty good, but I can do better than that.
A week later I'd scratched out a drawing and ordered 6 sheets of marine grade ply, some sound trigger circuit boards and a mahoosive sheet of perspex.
The day the wood was delivered it was just spitting with rain. The plan was to wait for the call from the wood yard, scoot home from work, take delivery of the wood and get back to the office pronto. So, I got the call, raced home and helped the delivery driver unload the the 6 8x4 sheets of marine ply, and lean them up neatly against the inside wall of the garage. The delivery driver left and I was about to scoot back to work when the heavens opened. The side of the garage where the wood was gets a slight bit of water seeping under the wall in heavy rain, so before I went back to work I thought I'd lift the plywood sheet by sheet and rest it on a couple of wooden battens so it wasn't sitting in a pool of water.
I was on about the third sheet when the entire stack fell over. Out of instinct I reached out to try and stop it from falling and the rest is history. This is my finger a few weeks after the tip was sewn back on.
I was very lucky as it could've crushed my whole hand and quite possible broken my leg.
Not wanting to let my boy down, I enlisted some friends and bit by bit we got the job done. All in all I think it turned out ok.
And with this finished I can now crack on with the 5.
