I have for sale a MK1 steering rack which I've converted to a manual rack using the proper method. This is the one I took out of my car when I put the other de-powered rack into it. One of the best mods I've done in my opinion, doesn't feel very heavy at all, got used to it in one drive. I stipped the rack right down to its bare components, spool valve was removed, pinion was Tig welded to secure the 2 halves together (remove all freeplay from pinion). Rack was removed and chemically cleaned, then I turned the valve down on a lathe to remove all mechanical resistance from the rack, The outside casing was chemical washed, and media blasted and repainted, The whole lot was re-greased and re-assembled, tension re-set and old hose fixings welded up to seal the rack from dirt ingress. The mounting brackets are also shot-blasted and repainted satin black, all you need to do is fit new bush>subframe bushes and away you go! I'm after £80, I think this is a fair price considering the work that has gone into it, and getting hold of a power-steering rack is costly at the best of times. I might consider offering this as a service if people are intrested on an exchange basis. Viewing/collection is welcome, Im just outside of Bournemouth, or I can post at cost.

I don't have the cash for this one, but I would definitely be interested in the exchange service. I have been considering this for a long while, but lack of access to a lathe and a TIG welder means its out of reach.
