Quick one for you good folks...
I'm just reinstalling my steering rack to a new subframe, and I can't remember - should the brackets, when tightened properly, be in contact with the subframe or can there be a gap as long as the bolts are torqued correctly.
I ask as on the drivers side I'm struggling to get it to side flush but it seems wrong to leave a gap (and naturally that is the side where the rear bolt is a nightmare to get to!).
Cheers

Hey!
Did you sort this?
I would have thought that the brackets should meet the subframe...
(There's not a bush between the bracket and subframe, is there?)

They should clamp tight to the subframe.

Sorry, meant to update this.
Yes, they do clamp up with a little heft. The issue I had was on my Rocketeer swap, the rear bolt on the steering column is very inaccessible so torquing it up isn't possible.
I ended up putting a ball end allen key in at an angle, and then using a ring spanner to force it round (sounds extremely ropey, but I torqued the other bolts properly and then tried to match theirs tightness by feel). It was the best I could do!
