Did my water pump and belts a couple of days ago and now have a leak where the hard return pipe fits into the flange (?) bolted to the pump

After fitting the pump I seated the pipe only to find I had to pull it slightly to line up with the bolt holes in the side of the pump, not sure if this is why it failed to seal or not.

Anyone else have the same issue ?

Why can't things break on warm sunny days.
