I've been looking into playing at a few sprint & hillclimbs locally (Pembrey & Epynt are ~30-45 mins away) and am trying to decipher the regs & rules licencing shouldnt be a problem, I've held the 'non-race' national B on&off for the last 25+ years for rallying so (hopefully) no ARDS worries but that does mean paying the 'Motor-sports-Assasin's' licence fees I've been trying to decipher the blue-book & had a look at the Welsh Assocciation's SR's wshc.wamc.org.uk/images/pdfs/supplementaryregs/2019wshcregs.pdf and ' think' they suggest Class 3B : Modified Series Production Car Class 1401cc to 2000cc so blue-book Technical Regulation (S) 12. I think? so... whats the actual safety regs? ie. rollcage / seat / harness / ppe (helmet / overalls?) / battery cutoff & extinguisher? or am I looking in the wrong place I'm intending to visit a meeting of the Welsh Sprint and Hillclimb Club (luckily the meetings are held ~15 miles away so no roadtrip) to find out about the legalities but thats not untill next month ao any ideas or advice from competitors is welcome Rich.

Your car road going with carpets etc?
If so you need suit, gloves, helmet, yellow battery earth lead, sticker for ignition switch and clearly marked tow eyes.

What Horney says above/\
Check out the roll over protection requirements for modified classes... as you say, cages are a can of worms.
If you have a roll bar (which is only advisory in road going) make sure there’s a barrier between the boot & cabin. Most people (me included) cut the parcel shelf panel to fit the bar, you just have to reinstall some kind of fireproof barrier. I used an old printing plate (about 1/2 mm ally & filled the void with firefoam) Oh & some silver tape on the rubber fuel lines thru the boot from the filler to tank.
Much easier to stay in road going. You’re right, original engine but induction, brakes etc are free.
You need a non-race National B licence. No medical or ARDS tests required.

Just had a look at the regs for what you’re thinking of. Are you staying NA or will be FI by then? If the latter, you might have your work cut out as there’s no separate 4WD class...

I'm staying NA (in an NA?) as I'm concentrating on the car not powah - I do have a merc / eaton supercharger but still undecided..... buying a plate lsd & sorting the 6" to 7" driveline is high on my priorities (already have a Kia 4.778:1 cwp, maybe 2), I'm also looking at a multiplate clutch - this is complicated as to use a Mazda gearbox I've only 1 source of plates (USA) but I have a Sierra based Tran-x 5speed sccr gearbox & the clutchplates are easily available locally also looking at a bias pedalbox - hence the road-modified as I guess its not a standard car after that Rich.

A Torsen with a 4.7 is perfect for NA+NA, I know some one who has a clutch diff in his & it understeers like a pig: It’s an expensive way of going slowly... A load of torque is needed to make a clutch diff work. Have a look at the blue book section S before you go spending your hard earned cash. No point in doing loads of work then being at the back of the field. www.motorsportuk.org/News-Publications/Publications/Yearbook

I know some one who has a clutch diff in his & it understeers like a pig: It’s an expensive way of going slowly... A load of torque is needed to make a clutch diff work. I don't have a 7" diff so need to buy, I like plate lsd's & set them 'slack' so they can grip when needed (also, easier to drive as opposed to pushing-on or sideways everywhere!) I'm not a fan of torsen / quaife / blackline type diff's as I believe they are just an overcomplication of an 'open' diff - especially when you lift a wheel reading the blue-book is always fun, I believe that nobody knows the rules fully and individual scrutineers interpret diferently! a good friend is a scrutineer (rally) & I'm going to bend his ear for ideas as I said above re. possible spec & modifications, I'm not building untill I know if it's usable (maybe, but just a fun roadcar? ) although I'm looking at the possibilities..... Rich.

My experience of a clutch diff is not understeery but it will depend on its setup and how you drive it, can't say it slowed me down at all, quite the opposite.

Kaaz plate diffs come set on 100% locking from the factory. This prob explains the person in questions understeer. Setting the clutch plates to a more sensible 33% setting will rectify that Id imagine.

They can often come set 2 way which is full locking, mine did, I changed mine to 1.5 rather than turn clutch plates, you can also adjust ramp angles to suit requirements, give less understeer then due to reduced lock up on deceleration. Normally you can unbolt housing and set what you need with 90 degree turn or if modular a new cam ring can't wait to get back out there, not driven competitively for a while, having a little go a clay pigeon this weekend, will be interesting to try my new nutter clutch, lets hope I can manage down shifts with something so aggressive or there will be lots of spins on my future.
