I am confused.
I am currently taking things out of the engine bay so I can get the head off, and next steps in the Rod Grainger guide include removing the alternator belt.
The small issue is that for some reason my alternator is out of alignment with the other pulleys - it's twisted so the side nearest the engine is backwards, which means the belt is sort of rubbing on the inside front of the pulley.
It also means I can't get it to shift inwards on the adjuster so I can remove the belt - it seems to be wedged against the bracket.
Is the solution to the fact it won't move just a big hammer?
If so, I'm guessing getting the inlet manifold off would create better space to swing in?
And why has it twisted in the first place?
I thought the bottom bolt and the adjuster bolt/bracket should mean it can't go out of alignment??

lower (pivot) mount hole in oilpump / front cover worn?
to adjust the alternator, the lower (pivot) bolt needs loosening, access from below - bolt head at rear of alternator & threadded into the front frame of the alternator (can sieze in the case?)

lower (pivot) mount hole in oilpump / front cover worn? Rich. Thanks for the reply! I'm not that far along yet - I'm not familiar with how the bracketing attaches so will have to see as I take things off Although if I can't get the alternator belt off, I'm not sure how I'll get anything else off the front of the engine... lol Current thinking is, worse case scenario, take the three bolts out of the water pump pulley and hope it doesn't break anything (on the engine or my fingers) when the belt tension pulls it off...

theres also the crank-pulley bolts to consider? if you are doing cylinderhead removal these and the waterpump pulley bolts will be removed to access the cambelt...
Rich.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to touch the crank pulley bolts (because Short Nose Crank 1.6 ) but it seems like the belt can't be removed without doing so?? I will have to brace against something other than the crank bolt itself when trying to undo the pulley bolts!!

Update: I am an idiot, I hadn't undone the rear bolt on the adjuster lol It now moves in and out and rotates, but it still doesn't perfectly align with the rest of the pulleys so further investigation to come.
