I used to use Varley Red Top 25 in rallycars, probably needed bigger but they seemed to last recently I've been looking at mobility scooter batteries for my Eunos but it's a bit of guesswork that they will work a car (sorta leap of faith & a prayer for £40...) Rich.

If you want to go properly light for a hillclimb car fit a Lithium unit. Give Allan McDonald a shout at AG Motorcycles. He's a hillclimber (Evo engined mini),ex motorcycle road racer and all round good guy. He'll be able to supply you a correctly stickered Lithium battery for very reasonable money. aandgmotorcycles.co.uk/index.html

Lithium cells are prone to fires. I personally wouldn't trust them.
Odyssey is in mine. I saw a guy with one in a 911 track car and copied his choice. The thought... if it can turn over a six cylinder in his it will in mine. Its never needed a top up. Been perfect over a couple of summers and a winter now. A third the size, laid down flat, nice alloy cage, under half the mass.

Thanks All, will check out the Odyssey and Allan McDonald options - do you know if there are any MSA regs that prohibit use? I haven't found anything to suggest that at the moment.

Motorsport UK requires Lithium cells to be from a certified manufacturer that can supply paperwork as proof of various safety tests for dead shorts, runaway, etc Allan's batteries comply with this and have the necessary paperwork and correct charger. I think the reg is J.5.14.9
