At least the job will be done and you can move forward. This is one of the few things on a 5 which are difficult to do.

Out of interest, has anyone coated the new bolts in copper slip (or other greasy stuff) to prevent the problem reoccurring?

when I swapped the dampers on my car last year. copperslip was used on re assembly

luckily for me the hub-bolts eventually came out after some persuasion but were tight & needed help.....

what got me was the camber-bolts as I had to remove the wishbones due to the rear damper lower bolts 'captive' nuts being, well, un-captive....

anyway, I'm fitting refurbed mk2 rear hubs (& shafts / diff etc.) soon so hopefully the copperslip has stayed soft & not dried to a glue

@ chris71, I've got a pair of rear hubs/driveshafts/wishbones spare (but they are still togther as a unit) if you are stuck, located near Swansea though....
