Well, it’s time for the Canoe Mayo sprint at CCombe. I’ll be doing the Classic Marques competition, I think there’s approx 30 of us in total spread around the classes. There’s also the Vincenzo MX5 challenge that I think Rickster is doing too. It’s free too get in if you feel like coming to watch some club Motorsport.

So that was a pretty good days sprinting at Castle Combe. It was my first time on a proper track with the R888Rs & needed to improve by 2.25% over last years 72.1sec to justify the change from the mighty Rainsports. The first test was the standing start- traditionally I am crap at this but with the new diff void fillers the movement was much more controlled & I was consistently 0.12 quicker than before with the extra traction given by the list 1B tyres despite tyre warming being banned. T1 saw me exactly match the time that I had set myself - 70.48 - to justify the tyre change but I could feel there was more to come. T2 was a bit ragged as I got far too carried away with going quickly over Avon rise & then mucked up quarry which then wrecked the rest of the run. T3 was unfortunately held up by one of the guys in the Vincenzo MX5 challenge having to be extracted from the barriers, he was ok but the car took a lot of the impact. This time I was really strict with myself & made sure the car was stable going into Avon rise & the rest of the run went like clockwork- from rumble strip to rumble strip on apex to exit. I think it was one of my most satisfying runs ever. I managed a 69.86 which was good enough to put me 2nd in class of 29 by 0.05sec behind a Boxster with all its electronic help & PDK gearbox. Here’s T1

Well done Howard, exactly where I thought you'd be on that tyre. They'll be rewriting the rules to penalize mx5s if you carry on with that sort of pace

Cheers Sandy, it’s the flipping Boxster they need to sort out with it’s cheating gearbox & electronics!! The same bloke used to be in TVRs with me & was always miles behind, then gets a Boxster & all of a sudden is leading.....

The boxter is a good car with a lot more grip than you, but do agree that auto boxes should have a penalty.
