Penultimate round of the Classic Marques Speed Championship at Goodwood this Saturday. It’s free to get in & the championship contenders are going to be there. Hopefully if the outlet arrives today, I should get my MX5 done in time. If it stays dry, it should be tight between me & the S2000s, if wet the Porsches with all their electronics will disappear into the distance.

That was a great day’s sprinting at Goodwood... A bit of a nervous gentle drive down listening for any tell-tale noises of impending doom. The weather was a bit soggy driving over the South Downs but luckily when I got to Goodwood it was bone dry. At the driver’s briefing, we were told 1 practice & 4 timed runs, unfortunately CM only count 3 timed runs so we came to an agreement for 2 practice & 3 timed which was to prove useful.. P1 was a restrained attempt, seeing where the grip was as it was my 1st time on R888Rs at this circuit & was shifting at 6000rpm. Ended up leading the class with a 101.8 which I was really pleased with- I needed to do a 97.7 to justify the tyre change though. I made a bit more of an effort on P2 & used 7000rpm & came over the line in 98.98, ahead of the class outright & on handicap. For T1 I decided to get my prarrie canoe together & go for it. I really was trying & managed to get a good line through Lavant which in turn got me a really high speed down the straight, however, nearly outbraked myself into Woodcote & managed to save it... Over the line with 97.62, a new PB. T2 was going well until I tried to carry too much speed into St Mary’s & had a massive sideways moment- 99 secs I was up on the paddock roof watching the action when my friend sent me a msg saying didn’t I want the last run? prarrie canoe, I’d forgotten! Ran across the paddock & jumped into the car, scooted up to the holding area. For T3 think I benefitted from the tyres being warm as I pushed even harder through the corners & crossed the line with another PB- 97.06 beating the the whole class outright & also on handicap.

A great result Howard, fingers crossed for a dry event at Combe. Have done some sums & need 24.41 points to win the championship.
