I am selling my beloved low mileage (for its age) 1994 MX-5 Mk1 BBR Turbo as it is now time for a change after 8+ years of happy ownership, driving, tinkering and improvement.
It’s a great little car in Mariner blue (the best colour for a Mk1!) which originally had stated performance of 150bhp – it’s probably lost a few of those over the years, but it still pulls well.
According to the first owner, who I managed to track down, the BBR Turbo kit was fitted by the BBR factory themselves when the car was about 6 months old (though BBR say they don’t have records going back that far…)
The odometer says c. 97,000 miles but at about 81,000 miles a newer, “big nose” engine (with 36,000 at the time) was fitted, which would make the current engine mileage about 52,000. The full BBR Turbo kit was transferred to the replacement engine, including the intercooler, turbo, special exhaust manifold and 95/98 octane switch. It is running on the standard BBR piggyback ECU which plugs in the standard ECU.
It’s a UK market car and has MOT to May 2020. Standard on this car are power steering, electric windows and electric aerial.
It’s in generally good condition and has always garaged during my ownership. The car has had a number of changes and additions on a fairly understated retro theme to improve handling, looks and style - see below for more details of the current spec/modifications.
Engine/drivetrain/suspension
• 1.6 litre BBR Turbo engine with intercooler and oil cooler

• OEM MK1 yellow front top strut brace
• 15”x6” Wolfrace 7-spoke alloy wheels that were fairly recently refurbished in anthracite grey
• Tyres are Hankook V12 Ventus evo 2 (195/50 R15 82V) with around 6mm of tread remaining.
• EBC Green Stuff brake pads
• New front brake discs fitted in 2019
• Fully synthetic 5W40 engine oil regularly changed at the recommended 3,000 mile intervals, spark plugs changed at recommended 6,000 mile intervals
• Cambelt was changed at c. 80,000 miles, gearbox oil changed at c. 86,000 miles and I have used Dinitrol in the sills and front and rear arches.
Interior retro styling
• Porsche 924 gauge pod with very rare BBR boost/vacuum gauge, VDO clock, VDO voltmeter
• KG Works-style instrument panel (stainless panel with retro LED telltale lights)

Original asking price was too low, apparently, so let's say £5,000 or above
Please contact me for any more information or to arrange to view the car. Proof of insurance will be needed if you want to test drive it.
Location is Sevenoaks, Kent, 5 minutes from J5 of the M25 (M26/A21).
