The other thing I need to sort is the ride height. I still haven't raised it and it's too low for those middle of the road speed humps, let alone the sort of rocks, tree branches and detritus being washed down the lanes last night. Best bit was the flooded roads where I literally had a bow wave going, the sidelights were shining out from under the surface! And got to the other side where some twonk in a Range Rover was chickening out of going through it. I don't understand how getting water over the front of the bonnet to that depth doesn't kill a car - surely it must be that high in the engine bay, therefore covering the air intake?!

I really couldn't see anything behind when doing 3/5/7 point turns in narrow lanes! you need to try harder.... 1999 on a local roadrally but when the wheel falls off (literally....) 2001 when running-in an engine & a halfshaft snapped, minor roll lasted 125 yards...... Rich. That shell is remarkable straight for a roll - cage did its job!

Ouch! Was that the end of that car, or did you buff it out? My navigator enjoyed himself last night and we were the top novice crew, so I'm hoping he might join me for some 12 Cars in the autumn. I have been in the left seat for a few years so it was nice to be driving for a change... Ha. That car was very dead although surprisingly the rollcage area wasn’t affected by the roll (end/end spinning) Saved the diff/gearbox/engine/one suspension strut/ one seat (drivers snapped (magnum fibreglass, did its job & I was unhurt) I destroyed another car that year, I’d ‘rented’ a Chrysler Sunbeam as the owner owed for work done, went to Caerwent & due to not knowing about a caution (navigator refused to check) got ~1 mile into the first stage before finding a culvert in a puddle then hitting a wall... Although I repaired that car, chopped everything off & replaced (from the windscreen & bulkhead foreword, not easy with a Sunbeam as panels are rare - even 20 years ago!) Since then I’ve navigated & built/repaired & serviced... Although I do still have the remains of a Vauxhall Chevette HS that’s been a long-term rallycar project but that’s another story ) Rich.

My air intake is up high near the bulkhead, pointing back towards the cabin, so didn't have any problems with flooding, though it did give the alternator belt a bit of a slippery time.
