Hello all, just wanted to say hi! I have owned my ND 1.5 for a little over a year and have been having a blast. I have even managed to convert my housemate into an NB 1.8. We are slowly repairing and upgrading his and upgrading mine. His was a copart rescue that used to live in Scotland (read lots of rust) mine is me slowly and carefully upgrading my daily driver on an incredibly low budget. Servicing and air intake modifications have already happened but springs and exhaust are next for mine. Any hints and tips are more than welcomed as I have only ever worked on Vauxhalls and Fords before! Currently looking for a decent and well priced set of spring compressors! Look forward to getting to meet you all!

Welcome aboard! Good to hear you're getting your hands dirty - even office-dwelling keyboard operators like me can get stuff done on a 5 (eventually... and yes, I can hear you lot at the back rolling your eyes!) with some bravery and a decent toolkit! I don't think they are much different to any other newer car out there now (in terms of working on NDs) - the metal bits and how they work hasn't really changed that much, it's the electronic gubbins that will be more likely to be a total PITA... lol One thing I will suggest doing is looking up the known rust areas on the ND (Mazda always fit rust as standard on a 5 ), treat them if necessary (Bilt Hamber or similar) and protect everything with the modern equivalents of waxoyl
