As I mentioned in my hallooo post.. I don't actually have an MX5 at this point.
But my Z3 is getting on (And using my other car - a Starion to commute is just insanity). I originally bought the Z3 to put an AC Cobra lookalike kit on it - but 4 years later i've not gotten around to it, and having worked out how much its gonna cost (around 4-5k) I got to thinking... I can get an MX5 for that - probably more fun to drive than the Tailgate McNoIndicate)
Its probably worth mentioning that the Z3 also has an LPG conversion to ease the burden of commuting costs. (Anyone fitted LPG to an MX5?)
So I've done a little looking around on the internets and whilst I have a soft spot for popups and, up until maybe 2-3 months ago I wouldn't have looked twice at anything but a Mk1 MX5, I've had a bit more look and a bit more think. Keeping one 20+ year old Japanese car alive is more than enough
This being the case I'm leaning towards a Mk 3. My reasoning is that they are newer, and have had less chance to rot etc.
The same internets I mentioned earlier suggests that the newer "smiley face" version of the MK is the better of the 2.
And being as how I'm used to a 2.6 Starion Turbo and a 2.8 Z3 I'm also inclined to think that a 2.0 Mk 3.5 is the option to go for.
The downside there of course is the price difference tween the 2 is significant. Is the difference between the 2 that great - or can you make the earlier models work just as well ?
Be nice to have some input from people that have more experience in such matters.
Thanks in advance !
