I'm in class A2 "Roadgoing Series Production Cars over 1400cc up to 1800cc", how come you are in A3?

the 1.8 Mazda engine is 1839cc 1.8 Mx5's compete against bigger capacity cars - hence why theres lots of FI Mx5's on hillclimb & sprint entry lists using the 1/3 capacity increase handicap and why dickie has looked into de-stroking to get below the 1800cc limit Rich.

The class in other couple of sprints I've done in mine are up to 1600cc, so the 1.8 cars were already in the next group up (1600 to 2000).

The regional car clubs seem to have different capacity class breaks. Down in the We(s)t country its the ASWMC class structure. Rich is correct the BP 1800 engine is rated at 1839 cc I am not telling the wife till my entry has been comfirmed. I have just checked the Blue Book regs again as the new car does not have a roll bar fitted. I always run with the hardtop fitted so get classed as a closed coupe. As the car is completly stock interior wise there is no requirement for a rollbar but it is recommended. I use a CG Lock on the seatbelt. I will either be using my new Pilot Sport 3s or my older NS2Rs dependent on weather forecast. The paddock grass and damp under the trees at Wiscombe favour the Pilot Sports. I am in the process of fitting the 1L catch tank and Off sticker on the ignition. I need the catch tank due to the non OEM bits under the bonnet. As long as they only stick the noise meter at the Exhaust I should be fine. The ITBs with the foam filter are well over 100 decibels inside the car.

Fingers crossed dickie, no scrutineering on the sprints I've done this summer, just a noise test and a cursory glance that my helmet had a sticker when I approached the start line. There was actually one competitor not even in overalls, and some of the shabbiest gaffer tape numbers I've ever seen, but they still got to play!

I always try and make sure the Mazda is presentable and looking right for the events, unlike the Austin which is a bit on the tatty side ( but at its age its allowed to look lived in )

Good luck. Fingers crossed it’s dry for you. Thought series production, road going doesn’t require a rollbar. It’s advisory.

Hi Howard, As I only do a few events I keep the car almost stock. When I hillclimb my other car I don't have a seatbelt it will slide around Wis, Sawbench and Martini ! fastest time 66.07sec in a 1934 side valve car with 750cc engine. Link Below is the Austin and others at Wiscombe. images.app.goo.gl/f8UzxARP6297y8yN8

I am there , though I am in class M which is the Vincenzo & Son Bristol MX5 Challenge. it was created specifically because 1.8 mx5s ended up in class a3 in the south west and need FI to be competitive. There are a few of us doing this, my first time at Wiscombe

I've only done Wiscombe once (2018) in the J2, and managed 68.65s. I ran the previous day in my now-dead Impreza wagon and did a 47.4s, bit of a difference!
