I've been thinking of oblong headlights, partly for the lower profile of the popup units (also easier to see in front ) and partly as I like the look I know about altering the linkage & crank-arm on the popup motor / gearbox so thats easy enough and I've a spare pair of headlamp frames so easy to mockup but are there any pitfalls? looking on ebay I've found Hella h4 oblong headlights that have a bolted housing (- easily mounted in the 5) and are sensablly priced @ around £90 pair as example... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuine-HELLA-Headlight-Headlamp-1AB-007-145-001-Top-German-Quality/193462955610Rich.

The set I had, the main issue I was bounce when in the up position. spent a long time adjusting the arm length to get them to shut correctly and open all the way.
I think if I'd had the inclination at the time I'd of taken the adjustable arm and made a fixed length unit more akin to the standard lights pop-up arm.
LED bulbs make a drastic difference to light output also.
If you go for side panels, the rearmost wing side fixing is a pain to get to.
That's all I can think of for now.
Look forward to seeing your progress.

Indeed, I'd adjusted both stops on each, but one light still rattled when up and gave me a shakey beam! I had sold them on before I tried to fix again.
