It pains me to do this, but the boss has decided she simply must have four doors and the Celica has to go
Would anyone on here be interested? Or know someone who is?
Please let me know, as to scrap it would be sacrilege when it is the most reliable car ever and 99.9% of everything works I want it to go to a good home.
As far as I can remember it has broken down exactly once in the 14 or so years it's been in the family - and that was at Bilbo's place a couple of years ago when the (original??) battery failed through old age on a scorchio day.
The good bits
1996 Toyota Celica 2.0 GT (Gen 6)
Family owned for about 14 years
3SGE engine, 170bhp (IIRC)
5 speed manual
15" alloys with Uniroyal Rainsport / Continental PremiumContact tyres with lots of tread (only reason I went for the Rainsports is because the Contis were discontinued, grrr)
ABS and power steering but no irritating traction control / ESP / etc.
Electric sunroof, windows and mirrors
Serviced regularly and with OEM parts wherever possible.
Pretty much sailed through all its MOTs with only minor Minors.
Virtually everything works in the cabin - apart from one broken rear demister line, an intermittent connection to the driver's door speaker, and one bulb behind the dash - and that's for the lower half of the rev counter so presents zero issue.
Was doing 18k miles a year for a couple of years recently - ran like clockwork, only issue was a tyre blow-out(!)
245k miles on the clock but runs smooth all the way to the redline.
Always run on Super Unleaded because it runs smoother and pulls better.
The bits needing work (or just leaving, dependng on preference/viewpoint)
Minor electrickery bits detailed above.
The third brake light bulb needs changing.
The horn works intermittently right now - it's not the steering wheel or the relay so it must be a loose/damp connection.
Paintwork on one rear quarter has had the lacquer lift/fail.
Signs of some oxidisation on the lower inside edge of the doors.
Bubbling paint at the rear edge of one door and one rain channel round the boot opening.
Definite rust on one rear wheel arch - would need cutting out to do properly, I would say.
Bored chavvy kids have pulled off the Toyota badges (grr).
Driver's seat bolster has worn through and lost foam.
The Pics...
... need to be taken... lol
The price
This bit is the tricky bit as I've not yet checked other listings.
I'm aware this thread needs both pics and a price, though lol
Let me do some research and come back on that point!
As I say, I would much rather it went to an enthusiast who will look after it, instead of either a chav just looking for a quick-ish cheap car to thrash around in like a bell-end, or a miserable bastard with a flatbed and ramps, whose only focus is in how much he can weigh it in for
