Found some Cobra bucket seats on EK rails very cheap, will be getting those in the car ASAP. Has to be done, one seat is good for space but I want to have 2 ideally haha.

Good luck with clubman How do you find them? I was not a fan of the pair I had, but then again they were in poor nick They're alright, snug, supportive, but they lean back a bit, it's a bit weird tbh! Also I need to take the seat pad out and foamectomy it, as the lower padding is huge. Once I've done that they'll be fine, I just sit very high!

Weird is definitely what I felt! They're a very old design so tastes have moved on a bit.
As far as sitting high is concerned...Just Say No init

If I don't like it at all after removing the foam then I'll just chuck the OMP I have in, it's old and a bit battered, but more of a conventional bucket design.

Old design? from what I can see those Cobra seats are similar to the old 'Huntmaster' steel framed bucket seats that were evrywhere in the mid 80's & 90's comfy if not a little reclined seating. position... when composite seats became cheaper they became the norm & steel frames were generally dropped as heavy & not great in an accident as they can bend & in extreme cases collapse / crimp the person inside (composite seats absorb energy & can 'snap' or crack in an accident - have a few old ones in the shed that are damaged) I've seen people 'widen' steel frames with a scisor-jack Rich.

Didn't realise they were Clubmans, I had (just sold) some steel frame vinyl versions.
They were pretty good in the 5, but I'm glad I didn't read about how they perform in an accident whilst I had them!

I'll dig up a snapped grp seat I've kept (since it did it's job when I was sitting in it 20 years ago ) as a reminder of their sacrificial qualities & get a photo Rich.

So yeah I wasn't massively getting on with these, I'm 6 foot and the padding was just silly, you can see here just how thick it is: So I peeled the driver's seat pad up, gently peeled back the material (it's only bonded to the foam with adhesive) and took the foam pad out. I then spent about half hour cutting it roughly to half the thickness with a Stanley blade. Then put it back in and pulled the cover back over it. I need some fabric spray glue to hold it down, but the cutting actually went quite well: It's a hell of a lot better now as I feel like I'm sitting in the seat and not on it, and I sit probably an inch or 2 lower, which makes for a much nicer driving position. Another bonus is the half I cut off will be just the right shape to slot in behind my back to sit me a bit more upright, I just need to get some fabric to cover it with, should be ideal, these lean far too much for me, I like to sit practically bolt upright, especially with a fixed bucket.

I never even thought to modify the seat cushion, worst case if you don't get on with them they go in the MX5 quite easily, the reclined position hopefully wouldn't be as big an issue.
