I'm in the middle of refreshing the boot on my mk1 (exciting times!) and having removed the battery, some fibre insulation material fell off of the quarter panel.
My question is twofold: Can this insulation stuff be bought, and what is it called - I've not found the right combination of words yet?
What is it for? Is it just to try and stop dents in the quarter panel when fitting the battery or if its not tied down properly?
Many thanks

I believe that's just "sound" insulation. like what you could find under the floor mat. just stick another piece of foam or better some dampening material like silent coat. it's just to attenuate the panel vibrations.

I wondered if there was a protection element to it too, as there's no insulation on the other side.
I thought it may have been there to stop the battery denting the panel if it got loose?

I thought it may have been there to stop the battery denting the panel if it got loose? thought Mx5's left the factory with the Dent & it was a dealer option to have it removed my '91 has evidence of glue & fluff but my '90 is clear in that area of rear wing... age related addition maybe? Rich.
