After having rebuilt a cylinder head I've decided to go full send and rebuild a bottom end too. It's a bottom end from a MK1 1.6. not looking to go crazy just OEM maybe a balanced crank. Does anyone have any recommendations of any engine builders that know there way around mx5 engines.
Many thanks

Hi Swordpork, Any decent engine reconditioner should be able to do the work for you. If you tell the folks where you are I am sure someone will be able to point you to someone local too you. fer.co.uk/Have a look at the above link.

not looking to go crazy just OEM maybe a balanced crank the standard Mazda ballance is nothing to sniff at, the engine from the factory was good to the redline regularly and ~30 years later origonal examples are still smooth as dickie says, any good machineshop should be capable of helping you build / rebuild Rich.

Riggghhhtt. Just called them, they weren't particularly helpful. They only deal with full engines now. It sounds like they have built short motors in the past and had nothing but hassle as apparently people fit grungy heads to them. Full standard rebuilt engine was £2500 plus the VAT.

Ohh well, they need to update their website I suppose. Anyway my point was that balancing involves most (not all) rotating components. Pretty sure there are others out there such as Blink, etc.who could do that. Best of luck in the adventure.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated. I've found someone to do my engine work as well as tuning. I'll keep the forum updated with how things go.
